Best spot to hook in the mechanical boost gauge is one of the two 90 degree vac line elbows just above the alternator main electrical connection. Put a T peice in one of those lines and run it to the left. Easiest spot on your car to run cable etc into the cabin will be through the grommit that has been installed where the clutch master cylinder should be mounted to the firewall. Poke a hole in that and push it through. Its a little entertaining to pull it through from the cabin, I find the best way is to lower the drivers side seat down all the way against the back seat and lay upside down (head in with the pedals) and look up at the hole. Bit of effort getting there, but its more comfortable than being on your knees for a few min. 2 people make the job a lot easier. One guides the line through the engine bay side, the other pulls it through.

Thanks for all that info mate... didn't have time on the weekend to do it, but will see when I can... hope it goes ok, don't want to cut a tube, then not be able to install the gauge... LOL! Watched a vid of YouTube that was similar to how you described it, so should be good... thanks again

I haz one liek that. It runs again too. I think yours sits about the same height as mine does on STi pinks. You need tints aesthetically more than anything I reckon.
Also have the same strut brace. I sprayed the brackets Matt Black to help them blend in a bit. Figured it looked cleaner. This is whats in the rear of mine. http://global.rakute.../item/s8rt6102/ you don't have to mod the boot lining to fit it. Again only a very minor difference.
Have attached my boost gauge install. All I did was 3M double-sided tape it, and its still there 2 years later and hasn't moved. It is only a plastic 45mm electronic gauge, I don't know how a larger one would look there. As for the line to use, use the small one on the left, just behind the red alternator plug.

Thanks for the awesome pics MiGoreng... makes my car look so much better than it does in reality... LOL!
Yeah dude, the silver car is nice... that blue thing is just in its shadow...
Thanks TSG, yeah I think mine sit on Kings, I like the ride height... down have to go too slow over speedbumps, never have to do that sideways thing, so I'm happy with it... and yeah, tints are on the list of things I need to do... would make it so much better... and thanks for the boost gauge advice... 3m tape hey? I'll try that... mine is a mechanical gauge, so thats going to be fun when I try to install it. I think the pod for it has a bit of weight to it, but we'll see how I go... thanks again

Hey guys,
Quite sure I have a boost leak somewhere in my car... I'll have to connect up the boost guage sometime to see whats up, but is there any other way I can tell I have a boost leak, just by sound or anything?

Are you noticing a decent lack of boost?
I should just convert to single, right?As soon as she hands it to you, slowly take of your pants, then, while staring her straight in the eyes rub it against the tip of you penis, while continuing your painfully intense gaze whisper to her;
"My eye is watering, this might be a bit hot"

What makes you think you have a leak? You can normally hear it squeal depending on the leak
Well, when the primary is spooling, I always hear this rushing air sound... don't know if it is the normal sound of a turbo spooling, or a leak...
Are you noticing a decent lack of boost?
I've always noticed a lack of boost... but thats because auto... lol... but I still feel like I should be having more power... the B4 on boost doesn't seem as fast as my old 3.8L commodore, with only 156Kw...

Off the line it never will. You're comparing two different animals. I used to drive my dads VY. Does it start to pull once the boost jumps up in 2nd? Then a little icing on top when you get it over 4500? I can't even hear mine spooling tbh... one time I did notice a lack of boost/noises and it turned out to be the vac line from my gauge install had popped off, fixed it with a tiny cable tie. I'd describe the noise as a hissing..
Posted 12 September 2013 - 08:17 PM
True.. they are 2 different cars... I guess I do feel it start to pull a little in second, but still, its very slight and very subtle.. so not too much fun... it doesn't get over 4500rpm, coz I don't want to waste fuel, but yeah I do hear it spool all the time, like that hissing sound, so yeah, I might have to check all the vac lines on the weekend and see if I can find anything... so I shouldn't hear a hissing sound hey?

Have you done a simple timed test 0-100? Find a 100 speed limit road, pull over, then forking plant it through the floor (with the power button on if it makes you feel better) it should pull hard enough to excite... they aren't rocket ships by a long way, but it should give you about 6-7sec to 100. Even without playing with the tiptronic stuff.
And no mine really doesn't make any loud intake noise or hissing. Bit of a whine once it gets going, and boxer roarings.. with some pinging if its having a bad day like when my fuel pump failed.

Bro the B4 makes all it's power over 4500rpm. If you don't take it there of course it is going to feel slow.

Yeah I was going to say that too haha.

Haha.... guess I'll have to play with the tippy more and not worry about the fuel if I want to have some fun.. Lol!
But since Megan is learning to drive now, she drives it most of the time, and when I get it, it seems to be low on fuel anyway, so I granny shift the tippy... next fill on the weekend I'm going to have some fun with it... so over 4500rpm hey? Coolies... need to install boost gauge too.. lol
