Not compared to the places where they're actually hooked up!

Quite true. Wire them up anyway you want just not as tail lights basically

Always fun to scare the tail gaters with a fake brake check :P

Wire them up to a switch and if there's someone travelling a little close for comfort, turn them on!

Oh wait. .. You mean like Fog Lights.... haha
This is exactly what I do. .
And to be honest I have used them as fog lights quite a few times. .. and in every circumstance it was severe fog /rain

Seriously though. . I don't know about nsw but here in vic is actually a road worthy item.. Not allowed to have that many rear brake lights or something stupid.
A mate got pulled up and defected for this in his gen2.

And as for the switch. . It's just a normal fog switch with the icon (what's the non nerd term for this haha) facing the other way.
Mine is even piggy backed off the same loom.

My GenIII and GenIV has it.

im looking to see if my genIII has it but i cant seem to find the plug, is that any particular place on the right hand side i should be looking?
but i do have the Rev A/B maybe thats why i cant find it, but but but in sayiing that i also have two rev D/E libertys that are written off so if it is only in the newer revision models i can go down to dads work and take what i need from my other ones

Any help is appreciated

I found out in the first revision libertys they have the rear fogs but no wiring, that's easy enough to do
But what's really weird is they have put in the globe and housing for only one fog light not the other
So you need to get the housing from the wreckers or sonething and drill out the back to fit it in
I'll upload a photo of the rear garnish

This one has the wiring harness and globe in it

But the other side is fully sealed.
Why would subaru got to all the effort of only putting in one side!
At least I have two cars to pick parts from

Because it's actually a foglight.

You see cars rolling around with a single foglight at the back all the time. It's heaps annoying when you're travelling behind them but in cooler countries, it's necessary!

We don't require them here in Aus so they never wired it up.

Oh okay
I just assumed they'd have two rear fog lights, anyway it's not a issue for me I just drilled it out and put a spare globe/housing in there

Looks good! I don't think it's a bad thing having the centre one? Unless you install a wing with a brake light... ;)

Yeah I'm undecided about the middle one.
But what I do what is to extend the lights so there's no gap between the normal brake lights and the rear "fog" lights

Yeah, the legacy garnish has the light spread evenly across.

I think you can do it on the liberty one, but you need to dremel some bits out?

Also, don't remove the center light. High mount brake lights are there for a reason.

Only remove it, if you're going to put a spoiler on with the brake light.

Or stick it on top of the window like in the wagons..

I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.
