I did hear something about that today. Its not free to play online anymore. Need some sort of conformation.

 

But I am willing to pay for access, as long as it comes with the same bonuses as having a PlayStation Plus membership now (free games, cheaper digital content etc).

 

If thats the case then I probably will pay for PS Plus.

I did hear that if you have PS Plus you will get drive club for free. As long as you're PS Plus subscription is active.

Sony's servers have never been a problem on the free network. For me anyway. I think PS3 was on Akamai, and the PS4 will use Gaikai servers.

 Sony's new service powered by Gaikai won't be available when PS4 launches this year.

Yeah Kinect but the Playstation Eye is atleast $60 and without it some controller lightbar features are useless like tracking and split screen side swap

That's kinda lame about the online multiplayer. Guess MS has been charging for it for years now.

 

I actually like how the PS4 has the option of not having to use the PS eye. Its required for the xbox to have it plugged in at all times.

Is it just me or is Microsoft turning into the Apple of console world.

 

I will get both consoles as I always have, I enjoy games that each have. But if all the games came out on both of them I would just buy a PS4. Ever since Killzone, my FPS skills are better on the PS controller. And I have always loved the GT series.

 

But everyone in my area at work are Microsoft fan bois, they like to make fun of the PS4 but they can't take it.

 

I don't really care but I like to stir shit. They are all Apple fan bois and I am the only one with a Android phone.

At this point in time all we know is that its optional for the PS4, publishers can enforce it if they want to be dicks. Which is no different to PS3 which already has online pass limitations on some games.

 

I was talking to a mate of mine about it today. While I agree digital distribution is great in theory, Microsoft price hike everything. If the games were like $20-30, no one would care about any of this. But they aren't, and won't be. This is the only reason Steam is so popular, because they are consumer first. They hold sales often and the pricing (in the US) is generally reasonable. I can never see Microsoft or Sony even, being consumer first as there is no game marketplace competition on each platform. The world is not ready for always on DRM, and there is no need for it if you have the disc to verify ownership. The PS4 doesn't require a check everyday (or everytime I get a chance to play) before the corporate dietes bless us with gaming entertainment. The whole camera thing is another issue entirely. Used games don't bother me so much as the inability to share games easily.

 

All they need to do (and this includes Steam and other digital distribution networks) is allow a 'Share Game' feature. You select someone on your friends list and share the game license. When this is active you can't play the game yourself, until you turn it off. All that is required is a subscription to the servers to cover the cost of downloading data from the cloud. This is only for digitally distributed content. Software bought on a disc should not have this limitation, it should be as its always been. But I can't see either Microsoft or Sony allowing a feature like this due to publishers having a whinge, publishers feel they have a right to more money and control in the digital world - which at every turn they are proven wrong. I read something about enabling a 'family network' on the X1 to share between a select few accounts. But its a bit half baked like that.

 

The kids toy (Nintendo Wii U) is the one in real trouble this generation! The gimmicks aren't selling this time around.

 

 

The irony is, the requirement of the Kinect device makes the XBOX ONE even larger!
