I am currently filling my tanks up with Caltex 98ULP (staff discount from Woolworths). I recently read that apparently 95% is better for better combustion?
Can anybody please help shed some light on the topic?
Thanks.

These cars in NA form are simple engines. You have a knock sensor. It'll save you.
New fuel is good fuel.
Just buy the best fuel you can afford from a busy servo.
Do some tests, Try different fuels. See what works for you. It's all the same shit in the end.

I've mainly refuelled at Budget Petrol. Every now and then a Shell petrol station. I seriously wouldn't have a clue if there are differences between petrol station fuels other than price, but I have always used 98 over any other fuel. Always. If one is better quality over another I'd definitely like to know.

Thats funny, all the 95's ive ever seen are 'premium' and the 91's have 'may contain 10% ethanol' if they arent labeled as e10 already.
Im a huge fan of BP ultimate. Our NA's arent real fussy when it comes to fuel so just try a few different types and see how you go

Might depend on the servo, but generally 95 has the ethanol blend. You're right, 95 can be labelled as premium in some servos. You'll also note these servos have an ultimate premium product alongside, which is 98.
Another tip, avoid 100 ron. Again, it's a blend of ethanol and will suck fuel like a V8.
Another BP Ultimate fan here.

Does that mean they don't have to label it as having ethanol? All 95 I see here never says it has it.
I was using 98 in my RX, but the car didn't cold start so well. So I dropped down to 95.
Not sure what to run in the car now its got a WRX motor.

I'm running an NA EJ25 on 98 with no issues. I normally buy from Caltex but sometimes BP.

all the servos around here list the 91 petrol as being the 10% ethanol blend. 95 and 98 are 0% ethanol.
If ur car is designed for 91, run it on 91, unless its not compatible with ethanol, then run 95. If u think putting 98 in an engine calibrated for 91 is going to make it run better/faster/cheaper, then u have been a victim of clever marketing...
My daily '99 civic gets worse fuel economy on 95/98 than it does on 91...

I've always used 98 premium from shell and my car seems to run fine.

I got no problems on my NA engine up to the 300k mark using the cheapest 91 I could find..
And I treated the engine like shit.. Missed services by 10k etc..

put e10 in it, there's nothing wrong with ethanol, i ran my gen 3 lowback 3.0 on e10 and it loved it, cheaper, better for the environment, winning. also 95 has no ethanol content for those playing at home, 19 + 10% ethanol is 93-94 octane, which is still labelled as 91 + e10, 95 octane fuel is just that 95 octane unleaded.

NA's don't care for 98. Couldn't feel a difference in smoother running or economy. Was told it was something to do with the ECU not being able to make use of the added octane.
So I used 91 and saved the extra cash for a turbo halfcut.
- Saving $12 a week on 60L
- 225 weeks
- $2700 halfcut in 4.33 years.

I only use 98 because it's supposed to clean out the engine and LPG is dirtyyyyyy!
I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.

when I had my NA motor I use to only run 98, didn't matter if it was CALTEX or BP just for that feeling
