Approach her in a positive way. Don't make it sound creepy. You say you want to continue having a relationship, whether it be friends or whatever, so just start small and see how it evolves. At the end of the day, honesty is the best thing you can do. And if she said your magic staff was 'handsome', then I'm sure she'll want to get to know you better.

 

And to help out with what you've written, I'd say something like this:

 

"I respect everything you've decided on and I'm sure you made the right decision for yourself. I'm a bit old for everyone to be talking about us and I'd really like to keep spending time with you, because I think we can have more fun together and we both put smiles on eachother's faces."
