Where's the negativity? People are just recommending you away from the Varex as far as I can tell?

Think it was to do with the negativity about his car being defectable for some reasons...

I think the answer is clear about which exhaust to get... HiTech FTW

Getting pretty sick of the negativity around here latley

negativity?? Que??

ive explained 3 times now about one of/if not the best mufflers to use.....told from experience too..not just internet heresay

and telling you that changing engine numbers means nothing is simply telling the truth......they arent engineers, they dont care what you have....thats up to the police/epa etc etc to worry about....theyre just making sure the engine numbers are correct, nothing else

sorry for offering legit advice dude...will keep my experience to myself from now on

i dont see the issues with a varex just dont boot itvwhile its closeed but to be honest a varex would be the least of your issues should you get pinned.

numbers mean nothing dude.....any change realistically needs engineering...ie emmisions etc....exposed pod, fmic, aftermarket exhaust, non stock cat etc etc etc

I think they just mean that you have a heavily modified car and if a cop is going to go over it with a fine toothed comb and defect you, they will!

No offence meant Cam or Matt. I appreciate your input, Im just fed up with hearing about how un roadworthy my car is anyone on here from Vic would be in the same boat... Ive skimpted on nothing and still get told in ervery post about it.  If it wasnt for Vic having different emission laws compared to everyone else id go ahead with the engineers cert as well.. But im not paying $1500 a test for it then atleast $900 on a cert untill I have to..

As for the car atm It shouldnt get pulled over unless im driving like a dick which i dont, The only thing thats going to get me pulled over is the super loud exhaust ..

Hence this post.

The whole reason i was looking at the varex is it will allow me to flip the switch if i see a cop and allow me to have it closed when backing out my garage in the morning without pissing off the folks next door.

And i wont need the car tuned again.

The other way to do it is to get a hold of one of the acuator units in the back of the B4's that control the active muffler. B4's came out standard with a butterfly valve muffler that automatically opened at ~4500rpm. If you can get one of them and rig it up to the ECU (surely the nice ECU you have can control something so simple) you can be legal with a Varex. Just quietly have an override switch somewhere that the RTA inspectors wont notice, so as they operate the throttle to check it, it still opens and closes like factory, but also gives you the control you want.

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

I bet your car isn't that bad. I wasn't even poking at that.

Those varex mufflers are a do not pass go, Do not collect $200, Direct sentence for one way trip to your local licensed EPA agent.

I've had Hi-Tech exhausts before, They are bloody good. Plenty of throb, Bugger all drone and they look the part.

Look into a TCP muffler, They flow well, Make a good noise and don't look very "Pull me over".

I've currently got a MRT muffler on mine (after a 3" system) and I couldn't be happier, It's quiet at idle, Flows extremely well, Screams under load and looks very boring.

I would pick a hi-tech twin tip if i was in your position :)

+1. I'm buying a TCP muffler for my wagon within the next month or so. All the feedback I've heard has all been positive with them.

Wanting to buy/looking for: single genuine STi rim, genuine STi front lip, Corazon or Zero/Sports grille and another OEM grille

Can you hook a brother up? Please contact me now. I have cash ready.

My VAREX is going fine, Its not ridiculously loud, It looks good, no problems what so ever with the butterfly valve or with the police, if you just say its not connected ;) works every time.

there is no rusting of the valve unless you dip it in a creek over night...

I recommend them!

Well yeah, that's the real benefit of the Varex. I've got one in my Gen3 and having the best of both worlds is great if you want to shut it up from time to time.

In terms of reliability, mines had a lot chucked at it and its been faultless so I can't complain.

Im assuming there is a obvious difference in being closed and open ? Does it cut the DB`s by 30% ? 50 % ?

I've got a varex on mine and when closed its just as quiet as standard. Going to spray it black though as I'm not a fan of the shiny shiny. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 4
