I agree with you on Messi. I have no idea how he managed to get the Golden Ball. There were many players that surpassed his performance even if their teams made it to the final or not... But I guess they had to choose someone that was in a final's team perhaps?
Germany were a solid unit. The first time they've won a World Cup as Germany instead of West Germany, and the first time a World Cup has been won by a non-South American country on South American soil.

I feel that any opposition to Argentina/Messi has instructions to basically attack him whenever he gets possession. When he actually gets the ball, he does some amazing things with his feet but it's always pretty short lived before he's shut down by a swarm of opposing jerseys.
For me, the attraction to Messi has much to do with his attitude. Seems like a well chilled out bloke who loves his football.
