But STI's had more track so wouldn't the shafts be longer? when i put STI control arms in my car it stretched the cv shafts out a little bit...

Are we talking GC or GD?

GD's are shorter in the sti's. Remember the box is much bigger than a regular 5spd.

 

Also, Have somebody look at your shafts before spending money on rebuilding the box, Only ever heard a of handful breaking. (Huge HP cars) And it wasn't diff issues.

By rebuilding i mean new diffs and bearings.. 

 

If it is the diff id be betting it was probably damaged when the car was being assembled it was driven with a incorrect ratio rear diff, As you guys would remember i was sold the wrong one on here..

 

Ill have the shafts looked at and hopefully thats all this is.

Dropped off thismorning so ill update you guys on what they find.

 

I have been shopping around for center diffs incase I need to replace and they are impossible to find online..

So my mechanic said he couldnt see any signs of wear in the CV`s.. 

 

Is there a way to test them ?

Just out of Curiosity.. have you always gone to the same mechanic?

Might be worth just getting a second opinion from someone like Ross at Cromwood Auto Burwood.. not a performance shop.. but he is the only guy that touches my car when im stuck.

 

just a general good mechanic with a good rep.. as a second opinion..
