Morgan, all you need to do is buy a new mac, don't worry about upgrading software, just keep upgrading the hardware every 12 months, less hassle.

Ain't no way I'm buying a new Mac every year though! That shiz is expensive!
Katie bought this one early 2008 and it's barely got a mark on it. Still works really well... needs a clean up though. She has terrible file organisation

Mine's late 2008, going strong, except for a disc being stuck in the dvd drive. It is getting slower and due for an upgrade, I might put an ssd in it.

Ended up searching for software updates using the provided tool and upgrading iTunes that way.
iPhone is now syncing for the first time since she first registered it! ...two years ago today!
