Question is as per the title. Assuming everything goes ok and nothing is broken. How much does a conversion generally cost assuming its a DIY job. Including the halfcut, possible rear diff, engine service, AM Auto loom splice, etc etc. I figure i should start saving for it now so once i finally get of my green P's i can get started on the job straight away

I've heard people do it around the $5k mark but definitely budget at least $10k.

Things will always crop up that were initially unexpected.

10K and still shooting up for me =S

BUT - I'm doing my usual Drongo time stuff like keeping my block and doing a semi big build. Forged guts and I'm not talking STi forged. We're talking after market bits.

V7 STI half cut $5000 (consider major service while engine is out $600)
Loom splice $800
3" Exhaust $1000
Fuel Pump $120
Mechanical swap (if not doing it yourself) $2500
Fluids $300

I would be sticking with stock internals. V7 would mean 6 speed and AVCS correct?

Throw in a replacement clutch as well! + new bonnet for Gen 2 since you need a intercooler hole.

I'm also considering this now. If I go ahead I'm budgeting $15k for v7/8 STi engine, 6spd, R180, Brembo's, maybe 114.3 hub conversion, TBE, TMIC and tune. Is $15k enough? Haha

Ah yes i forgot about the turbo bonnet. Sounds like 10k would cover things with a nice safety margin for things going bang

What about the cross member. I know the gen 2 RX one fits a turbo motor. Mines a gen 2 gx (probably worth adding) would a gc8 front cross member fit?

Don't even think about it until you have $15000

Cost me about 10. But that was v8 STi engine conversion only. No box, brakes etc. Did replace the alarm and clutch though. I had a turbo exhaust and bonnet to begin with too. For brakes, R180 and 6 speed I'd be budgeting about 18 Mosti. Could get away with 15, but you're always going to need extra bits doing that much work.

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

You can get a v7 half cut for $5k? Surely that doesn't include the 6 speed box?

I was curious about that as well. I though they were more around 7k. I was thinking a gc8 cut for cost reasons

I got my v8 engine package for 5k about 18 months ago, so surely prices have come down.

Was that with the 6 speed?
