I must say I was impressed with the quality/range of hand tools at Masters, way ahead of Bunnings IMO.

Mark is correct with the 1/2" drive comments but I would suggest starting with a 1/2" breaker bar and 14, 17, 19, 21, 22 and 24mm sockets as this covers all the Jap cars and once loose, you can use the 3/8 ratchet (use a 3/8 to 1/2 adapter) or spanners.
With all they money I have spent on tools, I have never bought a 1/2" ratchet. Never found the need.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Repco spanners? Must be half OK as a few mates who are still on the trade use them. If they are the ones I am thinking of, they look like Snap On.

I prefer my Repco tools over my Sidchrome and Kinchrome stuff.

I have spanners and sockets in Repco as does Dad and never had any issues at all.

Jase, Rumour has it Snap on produce the tools... I don't know how much truth there is to that though.

May swell just buy a whole set Jase, otherwise you end up with bits here and there.

Guess I'm used to using 1" drive stuff for work lol

Going Gokarting tonight with a few mates, trying this new place, that has electric go karts, so keen!

I do have to admit Jase, I have probably only used my 1/2" ratchet a couple of times (I have a ratchet and socket + extensions set in Repco) and the only reason it would have been used is probably after cracking the bolt with a breaker bar and then because I already had the set out just used it to do the rest...

Yeah, again I don't know how much truth there is to that story, but I have heard it a fair few times now.

Shifters are for plumbers. They have no place on a car.

Haha... Sounds like an awesome boss...

Well I won't be getting any tools today it seems... Repco isn't open for late night, so I'll have to go there on the weekend, work out whats the best deal I can get there and compare with Kincrome, but sounds like Repco tools would be better, and with better warranty... :)

Supatool is another decent cheap brand zac. They come out of the same factory as kinchome.

Cresent arent to bad for simple stuff but once you start putting abit of force on their tools things start to bend and break.

But for the amount you would be doing( I am assuming you wont be pulling motors or dropping gearboxes) A nice all around cheap set should do you fine. Don't go wasting money on a expensive set. Just go buy a decent toolbox and a small starter set with spanners and sockets then buy individual items as you need them. And before you know it you have a good set of tools that will get you out of trouble most times

Thanks dude... I did get a supatool bag of tools a while ago... but stuff gets damaged because no proper way for me to store them other than throwing them into the bag...

Repco ain't too bad I guess... $99 for the socket set and $89 for the spanner set...

Well I'll just go instore and see what I can find...

Thanks again guys... think I've got enough good advice...

You guys are such tool-heads... :P

They are owned by Kinchrome but OMG they are the shittest thing I have ever used in my entire life to the point that I wanted to hurt passers by for allowing such rubbish to exist in this world.

I have had the displeasure of using that crap at bunnings for putting together displays and what not and almost everytime I tell them to stick those abominations in a vault somewhere deep in the centre of the earth so that they can't hurt anyone any more.

TLDR: Shit tools.

Actually a damn good way to eat wings!

There were wings in that video?

Repco spanners used to be made by Sidchrome, until a few years ago when they switched to a manufacturer in China.

I have a mishmash of Repco and Sidchrome gear and they have done the job well.

Without hanging off them or doing anything that I would consider abusive towards the tool, I have broken three 3/8 drive Supatool ratchets putting displays together. The ratchet gear in them is made out of watered down playdough.
