@Sackry,
I would be looking at 1/4" and 3/8 drive socket sets first as these feel better to use than 1/2" drive (1/2" is like doing brain surgery with a chainsaw). Kingchrome do a nice metric/imperial 1/4 - 3/8 set for around the $100 mark. Ratchchet is 3/8 drive and not bad quality. From there you can add extensions and wobble drives as you need.
Sorry Josh, I have used SP extensivley and I am not a fan. Kingchrome is far better in that price bracket

Pliers I would be trying to get Knipex if the budget allows. They grip/cut the best and will last a lifetime. Again, purchase as required. I think Masters stock them (along with Stahlwille spanners which is what I use).

Spanners I cant really comment on as I have professional ones but my home set is Lobster (dont laugh) and they feel very good to use. Forget double open end spanners, they are useless. All mine are ring/open end. Ratchet ring spanners are for raging homos.

For screwdrivers all I would suggest anything that has a hex drive either on the handle (to attach a socket) or on the shaft (to attach a ring spanner).

Dont try to buy it all at once and aim for middle of the road quality. It will feel good to use and outlast any backyard tinkering you will do.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Yeah fair enough, as I said, I only used them last week briefly just tinkering.. compared to my Kinchrome stuff I thought it seemed a little nicer.. but perhaps using them a bit more would change my opinion :D

Yeah that doesn't look too bad Zaccy boi.

The link you posted before. I didn't even know Bunnings had it!

how the :fork: is it racist!!!!

Because people do not understand the definition of the word Racist and use it far too freely.

I do understand that it could be a bit culturally insensitive, but I don't believe it to be racist.

Haha... thanks guys... well Kincrome does have that lifetime warranty thing... which is good... but Crescent does come with more tools...

Been reading around other forums and people say Repco tools are good too... but too bad they aren't open for late night tonight... :(

 Ratchet ring spanners are for raging homos.

I don't care if you think I'm a raging homo. Ratchet ring spanners are one of the best tools I own.

Crescent does come with a few extras, like the pliers and shifter, but like Jase said, I could buy those separately...
