Seats aren't exactly hard to come by though. I'll probably have a full set availible soon if you want them Rhys.

Places like BMI and ATS CKD complete used cars from Japan and do have all the seats etc but they would normally want more for them. As far as drivability goes, a V5/6 STi(or newer) is a very easy thing to drive. They are super smooth in power delivery and have plenty of torque. A 2.5 is always going to be better but it all comes down to cost. It will cost about $7k more to put a new EJ25 turbo bottom end and ecu into the car at the time of conversion and I think that would be the cheapest way to get a 2.5 in there. I will see if there are any local XT engines available but I wouldn't expect them to be real cheap. Will check tomorrow.

Already suggested...

But seriously, $20 is a fair chunk, takes a lot of time to work out how to spend it, a MY04 onwards WRX/WRX STi is a worthy choice, incidently there's a certain MY04 WRX STi for sale in Perth, possibly free transport if you're interested, $40k or less.... QLD car, always serviced in Bris, only been in WA for 6months....

yeah. but what about all my lovely suspension mods!!!!! what a waste
b4 has the ugliest mofo interior in the world... uhhhh.. silver plastic crap with blue leather.. yuck. sorry frank hehe. i think the fake wood looks better
sl33per? gen 2.. been there done that.. not a fan of them. sure 980XXRS is nice..(hi jarrod) but not keen on travelling back in time for chasis/interior. plus, jarrod would think im copying him haha.

new idea.. buy 2.5 litre short motor.. buy all the extra needed bolt on parts that would be required from skippy. i.e heads, turbo, exhaust manifold, blah blah blah take it somewhere to get assembled. get al to do the loom. (can drive around while all this is happening, big thumbs up) drop engine into car, use current gear box/shaft/diff. no yum yum launches ever... keep gearbox from dying. use current rx ecu, get it reprogrammed/flashed/whatever it is. put an 3" exhaust on the car. put a fmic on. thoughts? i know im missing a couple steps, but this could work yes? big question is what the price would end up being.

You should locate a factory turbo computer IMO. You're not saving much by skipping out on it - maybe a few hundred.

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

It's ok, sometimes when we herp, we also derp.

as Al has braught forward about the miss conception of the ecu's, first thing would be to get someone with an OBD2 scanner to try scan your ecu to find out if it is OBD2. then you need to find someone with (or purchase) a tactrix cable and download the factory map and have someone in the know look at it to find out what is programable and what the limits are, IE if the MAP sensor can be changed to read a 3bar. the other option would be to get an 01+ ecu wired in and have the ej20 map reflashed with EJ25 base maps as Bazza did with his bugeye sti.

Pretty much what I plan to do with the Impreza, although I'm going top shelf, if you pick your parts wisely it could work out cheaper, and as you're able to have it assembled while driving your car around, no one will be racing against the clock, so less mistakes. ECU is obviously something that will need to be sorted. How are you going to get your short? Buy the case and aftermarket internals separate or buy the entire thing together a la STi?

you didnt read what Al said before. non turbo computer with turbo motor = BIG nono!! you cant get the factory ECU for a 2.5 litre turbo. you will probably need to go aftermarket which is where the extra $2500+++ comes from!

Rhys's car is an '02RX, which I thought would be OBD2 also.
I suspect the '01+ STI's use the same barrels.

Uh if it helps, STi and RX keys are very, very similar. Both are 01+, sorry don't have both here to compare, just have the RX.

Theoretically you should be able to flash a new ROM image straight to the current ECU without any dramas as long as its all wired up correctly. Wont matter if he has an NA currently as the new ROM image will be for the current engine. i'll try and find an ecu pinout for some STI models for ya if you need them
