So my Wagon needs some TLC but I'm wondering if I should attempt to do it myself over a couple to few months or if I should get it done for me?

Due to a limited budget (29, 1st semester at Uni, not working, long story, need a job), I consider I have 2 options; I can get started straight away and do things myself slowly over the next few months at a reduced cost (theoretically) or I can leave my car how it is an save until I have the funds to take it somewhere to get all the repairs done.

Below is the damage that I'd like to repair:

Front LHS Side Skirt, Front Quarter and Door

Notice the dents also on the tailgate

Top of the tailgate is very dull has a dent as you can see on the right of the image.

This is my biggest concern, dents and rust.

So what do you all think?

Could I fix this stuff relatively cheap as a "fun" D.I.Y. or would I be better off getting someone to do it all for me?

Quite a bit of stuff, I wouldn't DIY it, but thats just me.

Are you from Mounty? I know a good panel beater who did work in my car before the HVC, very good work and price, in St Marys

You wouldn't do it because it seems easier to just pay someone to get it done?

Yeah I'm from Mounty. I guess if I decide to go down the panel beater route I'll look at some options when I get to that bridge. If I do decide to go down that route I'll need to save anyway which'll take some time. Getting this done is not top priority, it's just something I'd like to have done eventually.

I'd do what I was capable of doing myself, the small bits, and leave the larger fixes for a panel beater/dent removal specialist.

If you have access to an air compressor and paint gun and have a bit of knowledge id do the small stuff thats just paint chips. Things like dents and rust need professional work imo

In my case, it wouldn't just be easier, it'd be the only way for me to do it, since I have no knowledge of panel beating or painting, and I don't think I could do it anyway.

But yeah, when I bought my car, it was damaged, probably a little more than your's is, but yeah, took me a year before I actually fixed it up. Lol! Not cheap, but worth it :)

^this

I have DIY painted a few cars in the past with mixed results. From panel repair to complete back to metal resprays and I wouldn't touch some of those dents.

+1 with kong.

Some of them could be pulled out with PDR. And a lot of it would need blending. And silver is shit to blend!

I get what you're all saying.

If I had to prioritise the repairs, I'd say the rust and the rear bumper get to me the most. Could I DIY that on the cheap you reckon?

Couldn't hurt to try. Might be able to get it close enough for now.
