If it is, my back is sore every day, sometimes twice.

Iran publicly hang murderers http://news.bbc.co.u...ast/6927434.stm

Would be worth getting arrested just to make the joke 'What you doing Nick?' 'Just hanging'

I think execution is a harsh penalty due to it not being anyway aimed at rehabilitation, but as a deterrent there's not much more you can do. Of course you run into problems when offenders want to martyr themselves for their cause, and therefore execution loses it's impact.

I mean in general as a criminal justice response.

Not in that particular crime.

I have lived in Saudi Arabia for four years. They have capital punishment there too. If someone steals, they are asked what hand they stole with and it gets chopped off. More severe crimes such as murder and rape there is no choice, you just get your head chopped off.

Is that code word for fap furiously in the shower?

I don't need to fap.

True, though I think some people have no right to rehabilitation.

I agree Josh. Some people do, the majority don't. They're just infesting the gene pool.

Couldn't agree with you more.

I feel like I should be doing something right now, but I don't know what it is...

True, though I think some people have no right to rehabilitation.

Hmm it really is a heavy topic, although look at it this way. If a dog is abused from the time it was a pup, and then in it's life it bites someone aggressively, and this attack can be justifiably linked to the dog's history of abuse, can you not say that the dog is less responsible for it's aggressive actions?

This is the way in which our judicial system operates presently.

The danger with execution is that it is often used in a more political way rather than a judicial way.

It is an iffy subject, but how can you prove it? A lot of the time criminals use such excuses so that they are given a lighter sentence. I am only talking about the ones that do deserve it. Rape, child molestation, etc. There is NO reason or excuse that justifies anyone performing in such activity.

There is if the individual has a skewed perception of what normality is. If you grow up in an abusive household, then you assume that this is normal.

I agree that crimes are crimes no matter who the perpetrator is, but we have to appreciate that some people need rehabilitation more than punishment. I don't think it should result in 'lighter' sentences, but I don't see the benefit in imprisoning a person in a cell where no education or rehabilitation is offered, just so they can be released in 20yrs and have had no major 'change' to their behaviour, therefore resulting in repeat offending.

I'm studying this stuff at the moment so i apologise if I'm rambling.

I don't think this logic applies directly to people, we have the choice to not be shit.

There is no excuse for hurting innocent people.

The way I see it is that most wouldn't choose to go to rehabilitation if it wouldn't mean them getting something in return, such as a lighter sentence. No one does anything for something nowadays. Not to mention that there is enough media and what not out there to show what 'normal' is.
