The way I see it is that most wouldn't choose to go to rehabilitation if it wouldn't mean them getting something in return, such as a lighter sentence. No one does anything for something nowadays. Not to mention that there is enough media and what not out there to show what 'normal' is.

Mate, I've been doing volunteer youth work for the past year in Sydney, you would be absolutely dumb founded at the stories I've heard, and by stories I mean factual accounts and documents. Some kids grow up and spend their formative years in some very forked up situations. Yes they do know what normal is by watching Neighbours, but they can't experience that first hand.

And I wouldn't propose rehab be a choice, I'm stating that prisons should be rehabilitation centres first and foremost, and only when an inmate has had multiple failed attempts at engaging with rehab should they be relegated to a regular 'sit in a cell type for 23 hours a day' type of incarceration. I've seen cases where young offenders have been locked up, and whilst inside have had to attend school, something that would be impossible for them to do outside by themselves.

Trying to fix someone's psyche is hard though, everyone one of us here would have very minor psychological problems due to how we grew up, and it would take years of therapy to change the way we think, thus why most Governments just ignore that part of criminality and react with punitive measures. It is just too hard to combat the mental side of things, so they lock people up and hope that stops them being crazy.

The over arching problem is identifying risk factors early on in life, the UK is currently doing it with teen mothers, as an overwhelming amount of criminals are born to teen mothers. Therefore as soon a teen girl falls pregnant it is their plan to swoop in and ensure the teen is supported, lives in a safe community, has a stable household and has little or no exposure to substance abuse. This method could be expected to literally decimate the criminal offending rates in UK 'council flat' areas.

Think about it, how often have you seen young kids out late at night and thought, 'where are their parents'? How often would you attribute your law abiding nature to the way in which your parents brought you up?

Alright, let's start talking about cars and fapping again.

No worries bro, my partner is a clinical psych, so this is pretty much what my pillow talk sounds like.

Ha ha, all good man. We're friends, I don't care you say it like that. I would lean more onto Leb-spec though, ha ha.

Interesting. Thanks for the good read :)

It is an interesting read.

I just think that if people look for rehab knowing that they have done the wrong thing and want to fix themselves, they will do it by choice and will be much more successful than those that just waste time, resources and money. You can't force a criminal to do something he doesn't wanna do. Like teaching a lion to eat vegetables and fruit over meat.

I'm all for rehabilitating people, but I just think that the majority wouldn't use it for its intended purpose and would reoffend in a heartbeat.
