I'm in the process of doing my tax return. Am I the only one that uses myTax? I've never had an accountant, and think that paying for one would defeat the purpose of getting the return.

Love dem things.

I found one out in the car park at a historic race meet once!

I'd definitely have a smile on my face if I was to own one.

Nah I used myTax to do mine too, easiest way to do your tax if you don't have anything difficult to claim or out of the ordinary.

I think it depends on the accountant you use, for whether it's worth it or not. I've heard plenty of good stories from accountants returning good sums of cash. I use one, because I work two jobs. Would still use the same bloke even if I had one job because he is good at what he does.

That's the thing though, of course I'd like to find someone knowledgeable and maximises my return, but I'd be paying top dollar for someone like that. I've just completed (but not submitted) my return now using myTax and my estimated return isn't extremely good. It doesn't even hit $1,000 and I'm 99% sure I've tackled everything and claimed as much as I could.

I must say the set up and extreme ease of use is awesome with myTax though.

You claim the tax accountant as part of your deductions. That being said, I did it myself this year

Ah yeah of course, it'd just depend on how much the accountant charges I guess. Would it be worthwhile for me to wait it out to try and find an accountant?

I have been using the same accountant for the past 7 years. On avg its between 2-4k returns no funny business only legitimate items. I have one job.

You always have expenses. Work uniform, laundry, dry cleaning all that stuff. That adds up ALOT.

+1 anything that should be claimed is claimed. And a good accountant should be telling you what you should be adding in and what shouldn't be in there. I'm lazy so I leave them a big box of receipts and let them sort it out.

I'm more meaning that the accountant I use is sort of a family friend. He isn't free, but still looks after me the best he can and also gives advice rah rah rah. Obviously going to a stranger accountant and throwing money at them won't yield the same results.

Doesn't hurt to have relationships with the bank/accountants. It has to start somewhere though.

How close of a relationship? I can try and get a good-looking accountant in bed. Hopefully that could help my cause.

I always keep my receipts and everything just in case. It's a good habit to have and will get you out of trouble if they were to investigate.

Looks like I should just be happy with whatever I get.

I don't see a problem ? You're paying them properly so its all good and they look after you good so its a mad win.

I didn't claim for the entire 5,000 km, I only did 285 km worth...

Could it have that much of an impact on my return?
