Gaz, It's connected part of the column. Not the steering wheel silly! That wouldn't work  :P

I've got long legs and have heaps of room.

Oh. My bad. Mine is on my steering wheel.

Despite selling my Liberty ages ago. I felt a great urge to sign back in just to read this build thread after you posted the car on club.lib FB page the other day. Wow, I was not disappointed! I always love reading a well executed build thread and this has been a satisfying read. Probably more so because EZ30. One thing I miss about the Subaru is the lego like puzzle they have created across multiple platforms and how easy/ repetitively simple they are to work on/ maintain. I look forward to the progress of the car Cam. Hopefully some sort of forced induction is on the cards!! :diablo:

Thanks for the kind words mate.

If these cars didn't have the "lego" thing going for them like they do, I would be driving something else. I love that you can pick and choose, It's what keeps me in these soul sucking cars.

Forced induction and this build aren't happening. It drives so well and I'll be honest, I would rather throw the serious amount of money I would spend boosting it reliably (Ecu, fuel system, turbo parts, exhaust parts, custom manifolds, cooling and gearbox/diff upgrades) on something else to keep as a axle stand queen. That won't be happening in the near future as I would most likely be shot by my partner.

It's a very oem based car. I don't like the idea of having custom/one off fabricated parts. Because if you break something, It's off the road and can't serve it's daily driving duties until you source parts to make the part that failed.
Being a mechanic, This happens to me all the time and it's frustrating/taught me a few things. I love the idea of using genuine/oem/normal parts because they will work first time, every time and they can be sourced easily. They also fit nicely :D

Every little bit of this car has been thought out very carefully, I actually drove myself crazy over thinking everything. The end product is fantastic and I'm very happy.

I have similar feelings towards modifying cars to you Cam except that I'm no mechanic and have no such skills either. Having owned and still owning my first car which is yet to be the way I want it to be, I now know its easier to own a car you want as it came out of the factory rather than modifying it . For me, financially it doesn't make sense. If I had the opportunity to do things once again, I would save up and buy a Liberty GT wagon, rather than owning my two current cars. Kudos to you for owning and building something unique, I know exactly how good it feels.

Mad. Any recommendations on where to buy?

nick,

after finally confirming a wiring diag for my 99 Outback cruise control (but not yet tracing through my stalk connections, nor extending my actuator cable - so it doesn't yet work), I reckon you could wire in a std OEM gen3 cruise.  Just need the controller box, stalk, switches (on/off and clutch), plus actuator+pump in engine bay.

might be worth a think.

Paint and car both look amazing Cam

Anyway, torqued to spec is just the manuals way of saying 'we couldn't get it any tighter, see if you can'.

Took the car for a proper Old Pac attack this morning with some mates in WRX's and STI's.

Kept up just fine. Handles great for being a 1.5t land barge.

All was going well until I developed a misfire under load, At first I thought it was fuel surge. Limped it home on the M1 (Drove well for 5 cylinders firing :P)
Finally got it home, Started doing the diag dance, #6 misfire, Worst plug to access, Found a coilpack connector had come off, Put it back on and happy days.

Always keep it simple stupids!

Back on the road and driving awesome :)

Did you ever get around to doing economy checks in my XT when you had it?

My travels to the snow and back, plus a tiny bit of city driving yielded bang on 10L/100kms (it does vary depending if one is travelling there or travelling back though).

Relatively 50/50 combined driving is closer to the 12,12.5L from rough guesstamites.

I can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday Dan :P

10L per 100 isn't bad for a big forry! :)

You really have to calculate the amount put in compared to km's. The gauge in these cars is useless.
