General Thread April 2012

Stagea has developed a misfire. when the car is cool its not there, but as soon as the engine gets up to normal operating temp, the misfire starts. Car will cruise and idle fine. The misfire is present under load (normal traffic acceleration) but if I give it a good solid kick in the guts it clears.
I know these engines are prone to killing coilpacks, and this is my uneducated guess. It is also dropping a small amount of oil.
So are faulty coilpacks likely to be the cause of my issue? Or does it sound more like oil fowling the spark somehow?
Sig worthy.

can i be so bold as to ask a technical question here? Id start a thread but it relates to my Stagea and I dont think anyone wants a thread about nissan engines here.
The answer will be that yes, RB25s are almost universally disappointing, but are still far and away better than an SR20 or RB20.

But the only way oil could foul the plug an leak out, is to defy gravity? Aren't the plugs on top?

Personally I dont like it, but its not my place to hate on what others think is visually cool. Although the Meguiars sticker is annoying the shit out of me hahaha.

@Iain - Im pretty happy with what the RB25 does. Its all i need. probably too much if im honest. I'll be selling the whale soon anyway. I just want to get it running well enough that someone might actually buy it. The car in general is just too heavy. It chews fuel. Even more now that its misfiring. Im sure there could be some tuning done to help this, but to be honest the days of spending money on cars are past me.

Is there oil visible around it?
Is there a way to test the coil with a multimeter (I'm assuming yes!)

Brett, could be one of many things... bit hard to diagnose over the interweb.. pull shit apart and see
Adam, if the car is burning through a lot of oil it can foul the plugs (take em out and they are black and shitty looking

all about RB's... are they coil on plug or a coil pack and leads?Could be a dodgy pack, a dodgy lead, could be an injector playing up.... just to name a few.

I honestly havent had the opportunity to do anything more than take off the cover that goes over the top of where the coils sit. I generally dont get a day where I dont need to use the car. Guess Im going to have to make time.
