ok here goes.

Stagea has developed a misfire. when the car is cool its not there, but as soon as the engine gets up to normal operating temp, the misfire starts. Car will cruise and idle fine. The misfire is present under load (normal traffic acceleration) but if I give it a good solid kick in the guts it clears.
I know these engines are prone to killing coilpacks, and this is my uneducated guess. It is also dropping a small amount of oil.
So are faulty coilpacks likely to be the cause of my issue? Or does it sound more like oil fowling the spark somehow?

Sig worthy.

can i be so bold as to ask a technical question here? Id start a thread but it relates to my Stagea and I dont think anyone wants a thread about nissan engines here.

The answer will be that yes, RB25s are almost universally disappointing, but are still far and away better than an SR20 or RB20.

Uneducated guess here Brett.

But the only way oil could foul the plug an leak out, is to defy gravity? Aren't the plugs on top?

horses for courses. If you dont like it dont look at it. Its not like you have to drive it.

Personally I dont like it, but its not my place to hate on what others think is visually cool. Although the Meguiars sticker is annoying the shit out of me hahaha.

Sig worthy.

yes that a very valid point Adam. But under pressure(?) maybe something funky is happening? Plugs are up top yes.

@Iain - Im pretty happy with what the RB25 does. Its all i need. probably too much if im honest. I'll be selling the whale soon anyway. I just want to get it running well enough that someone might actually buy it. The car in general is just too heavy. It chews fuel. Even more now that its misfiring. Im sure there could be some tuning done to help this, but to be honest the days of spending money on cars are past me.

Sig worthy.

Is the coil secured properly Brett? On the weekend Ben had a miss because one of the securing tabs on a coil had busted

Is there oil visible around it?

Is there a way to test the coil with a multimeter (I'm assuming yes!)

Brembo covers.... cereal? yeah I am not a fan of all those stickers.. but that is me.

Brett, could be one of many things... bit hard to diagnose over the interweb.. pull shit apart and see :P

Adam, if the car is burning through a lot of oil it can foul the plugs (take em out and they are black and shitty looking :P)

I know three fifths of Posted Image all about RB's... are they coil on plug or a coil pack and leads?

Could be a dodgy pack, a dodgy lead, could be an injector playing up.... just to name a few.

the coils sit right on top of the plugs in these fuckers. Its a bit of a mission to get to them to, due the the retarded intake design which goes over the top of the engine. Actually i say its retarded, but it probably fine. unless you want to get to the coil packs.
I honestly havent had the opportunity to do anything more than take off the cover that goes over the top of where the coils sit. I generally dont get a day where I dont need to use the car. Guess Im going to have to make time.

Sig worthy.

Brett, it certainly sounds like a dud coil. Pull them ALL out and inspect them minutely for cracks. I'll be you've got a cracked coil.
