Regardless of the figure of speech, I can't help but think of how unsatisfying a gash the size of a grown human would be...

Here's a stupid question. What exactly does an HDMI cable do?

About 10-12 years ago, dad bought our first brand new TV. An NEC 51cm CRT thing and it was awesome! Since then we've inherited, been given and bought only second hand TVs when the old ones break. They've all been very basic...

However, I bought a brand new 40" LED TV on the weekend and it has all these HDMI ports at the back. The only things I plug into our TV are DVD player, Wii and the old N64. Do any of these use HDMI?

No.

Hdmi is generally used to transfer things in HD - Blu Ray, XBox ps3. E.t.c

Don't pay $50-$300 for one.

Morgan, if you have a modern laptop that also has HDMI you can run the HDMI cable between the two and use your TV as a display.. one advantage is HDMI will also transmit the sound too :D

More modern DVD players have HDMI too I think, because they upscale to HD
