Front Crankshaft Seal?

That's what I was thinking in my head, but didn't want to get clowned. Sounds like what he said. I think the seal job is about $500, but if it fails properly (he'd just done one) the quote was around $4K. Could slap are tarbot unjin in there for that.

@Morgs: A buck siggittty brahh.

I wouldn't pay $500 for that job :P I haven't paid much attention to the front of a H6 engine if I am honest, but if it is like the 4's you would have to take all the timing gear off and the covers to get to the seal most likely, be a shit job.

I don't get the 4K thing though, or what you mean by failing properly? if it is leaking it has failed and needs replacing, what do you mean by more than that?

200K isn't a lot of K's. it is higher but it certainly isn't high K's... they shouldn't regularly be going bang at 200K.. that isn't very good.

Most subarus do go bang around 200k, I'd wager even a bit earlier. Not a spectacular bang, but they definitely do need money spent on them.
I've just dropped around $4.5k on our foz in the last 3 months, and the Posted Image'ing thing is still dropping oil!

Sig worthy.

Front of a H6 engine.... hahaha, have a look one day.

Fuckknows man, I knew more when he told me but that was weeks ago, basically failing properly = lunched engine, a little bit of a leak is probably OK but a catastrophic failure will be imminent if not seen to. I drive my car like a Nanna (mainly because if I go over thirty I bottom out... haha)

I'd bloody love these on the OBK...

Yeah, because you not being at work for five hours doesn't cost your business $500.

Sadly no. $2.3 k on seals, timing belt, rollers and tensioners, water pump, blah blah.
$2.2K on new gearset, clutch kit.
I thought I was all done for a bit. Seems not. Probably should have gone the conversion route, but considering I'd be paying for labour, it was out of financial reach.

Sig worthy.

hahahaha I wasn't sure if you got what I meant when I said I wouldn't pay $500 :P the job would certainly be worth that much to charge out!.

If the Seal was farked it will just leak oil, engine would only lunch itself if as a result the engine ran dry of oil and the bearings seized etc.... that would not be very good, at all.

You couldn't buy a better car with the money you'd sell a broken down Forester + $4.5K. Smart money really, Brett.

Nik has a good point Brett, If you get the foz upto scratch for not a lot more money, and look after it, you will get a fair bit more out of it and it will be a good car, still cheaper than trading it in and buying something new where you lose more in depreciation each year than what it would cost you to fix the foz :D. I know you are not in the market for a brand new car, still having said that, buying another second hand car could have its own problems.

Also this is the only money I've had to spend on it ( other than regular servicing, and mods) in 6 years. It's been such an awesome car to live with.

Sig worthy.
