The exec-spec Legacy build continues.

Dynamat is in. RS30 interior is in. In my head I've been sitting on the fence with this but now seeing it installed I'm happy with the change.

Attached File  2016-11-10 17.50.37.jpg   214.6KB   15 downloads

I haven't put the dash back together yet because I haven't finished the audio install.

Fun facts:

Dynamat is awesome and makes you think you're in a late-model Audi and not a fifteen year old Subaru

Dynamat makes your car doors slightly heavier and "clunk" so much nicer

Dynamat makes your 15 year old paper cone 5" speakers sound like toilet

RevDE interior is not a straight swap. Rear seat fold-down section has a different mounting bracket.

RS30 driver seat seat-belt receiver doesn't match standard seat belts. Much be a fancy tensioning seatbelt or something. Right now I drive with my seat belt clicked into the passenger side like Mr Magoo. Must fix.

RS30 door cards have additional insulation that wasn't on my RSK door cards.

Dynamat is very much worth the $200 and the couple of hours to remove the interior and fit the panels. It's not hard, just takes a bit of time.

While she was in dry dock I also fixed the horns (damaged terminal) and replaced a BFM LED. For some reason, my gear indicator problem has also disappeared? Shows 3rd gear perfectly now. Probably unrelated because it has done this before but first time it rains the car glitches and won't show 3rd any more.

I popped in to House of Soundz at Kotara this morning and was quoted for a sub box plus install on the fronts, sub and amp. Not sure whether I can be bothered messing around with it or just drop it off, pay for a few hours labour and get back to TT skids.

Once the audio is done, these are next. Picked up last night:

Myles, the seller, is local and we met at HVC 15. That's his wagon in front of my car. He's a great dude. Sadly, he has sold his Subarus and is now on to 4WDs.

Score on the mirror covers! I thought the other bloke beat you to em.

Interior looks fantastic! Are you able to just swap out the belt receiver?

Sounds like the dynamat is a worthy investment

He did, but Myles wanted pickup > posting.

Yep, I think it's a straight swap out for the belt receiver. Just need to find one. There has to be Gen3 getting junked in Newcastle somewhere. Glad you like the interior! Like I said I was on the fence (RSK gear was in v good condition, and not super keen on swapping out original JDM parts) but seeing it in there is great. The seats are more snug too.

And definitely consider the sound deadening! It's not silent by any stretch but even with me doing a semi-sloppy job (just whack some on wherever there's space) was enough to make a noticeable difference. I did outer and inner door skins, and floor lining. Can get even quieter with laying 'dynapad' over the floor and a similar product in the roof. It's pretty cool and feels like a different car.

Would love to. Old seats already gooooooone

Good point though - just about any receiver would do the trick

quick  tip -- if you want cheap dynamat-type mass loading for small spots (like door panels etc) - drop down to your local hardware store and get a roll of self-adhesive flashing tape.

Damn, looks mint man. I'll hopefully be swapping the seats into my car Saturday and doing some Dynamat on the wags and the RX! Can't wait.

Let me know how you go with the seatbelt receiver, worst case I'm sure there are plenty of gen 3 Libs here I can get one from a wreckers and my friend wants to go up to Newcastle maybe next weekend for someone wrecking a GT-Four Celica. I could drop it off while I'm sorta round the area. Ahaha, not that you'll have trouble finding it, but it's an option haha :)

Keep up the good work, sound system will sound amazing once it's done

That RS30 trim looks so good, I really liked it in Cam's gen3 wagon to.

How did I not meet you at HVC16, next year we must catch up bro.

Get a set of ducts from a Macintosh equipped car. They go around the amp and keep the ducts functional and warm air off the amp.

I fix my amp into the carpet and I've always favored under seat for amp location.

I saw some of these for sale on Import Monster, search BH5 in interior trim.

Thanks Pat. And thanks for the offer re wreckers. Jim also offered to help but the parts I'm after are a pain to get to (need to remove front and rear seats completely) and I can't ask you for that kind of favour. But definitely look at the sound deadening! Worth the effort. It's amazing how much more comfortable I find driving! My exhaust is diff-back only so not droney but even still it's easier on the ears. Wagon might take an extra sheet or two?

I'm keen to get the audio in but if I'm honest I'm not looking forward to messing around under the dash and running those wires through the doors. None of it's rocket science - just uber fiddly! lol

Looking really nice Mark...

Thanks moto. I can't make the Forster cruise in November but I'm still keen on a Newcastle meet or cruise for sure.

Hey beckers. Thanks for the IM idea - I'm still undecided on where to put the amp. Boot install seems a lot simpler than under the seat - but I'll take another look and see if it might fit in between Gen4 vents.

I loved Cam's GT30 too. This interior is actually from the original donor RS30 that Cam sourced his engine from. 80,000km young plus 2 years on the shelf.

Definitely keen to meet a few more people at HVC17 (or whatever it turns in to).

Had a fair win today, which is always welcome. Managed to get the non-talky RevC ECU to talk to the laptop. Third or fourth different cable. Finally got it working after duncan or beckers mentioned it in their thread. Might have been sbv. Turns out the "FT232BL" chip is the money. Previously tried the ELM237 or something and it saw the ECU but couldn't read any data.

This is the cable:

And in pain in the ass news a different one of the dash ring LEDs is on the fritz (I just replaced the fuel gauge ring LED). Probably cause I was feeling for Jim having to pull out his BFM over the weekend. Possibly my alternator doing stupid things. Rob dropped off the alternator from his GD motor so I better get on to that sooner rather than later. Here's the LEDs. Same as Nick and a few other dudes are using:

Awesome!

Just bought the same cable, same ECU type as yours so I should get some talky-talk action too.

Which program are you using on the laptop? Romraider?

Data logging ability?

That's FreeSSM 1.2.5. Didn't seem to have datalogging. That'd be very cool if there was something that could do that. Datalogging helped me diagnose a dude AFM on my GTR. Super handy.

If you see datalogging freeware somewhere, please shout out!

Sold unwanted stuff so I could buy wanted stuff. Thought I'd try EVOScan. AU$35 feels kinda pricey but that's about 20 minutes of paid mechanical diagnosis, or many hours and swear words of DIY home mechanic diagnosis.
