Mark, another question. Who do you have for insurance? Did you have to call in person as ive tried to look for insurance quotes online for legacys but theres no legacy drop down options for most of them.

I'm with JustCar. I've heard mixed things since but at the time I was just happy to find an insurer. Yep, I had to call them - every man and his dog will insure a 2002 Liberty B4 but "omg, custom!" for a 2001 Legacy RSK, and it was only after a direct phonecall. Wasn't too pricey though and the Legacy was on their system.

Try Famous Insurance also. Were cheaper than JustCar and Shannons for mine.

Been meaning to ask you, do they offer salvage rights on a write off? Cant find anything obvious in their PDS. Bit of a killer for me

Don't know, haven't asked or looked into it. Ring them. Planning on getting your car stolen again? :sarcastic:

My cars are insured for what they owe me, so If its written off, not really fussed on salvage rights. Get the money and move on.

Sorry to go off topic mate.

Does Famous Insurance cover all drivers like NRMA, or just those listed on the policy?

So I finally got to the auto elec today to suss out why my rear wiper and licence plate lights weren't working. They failed at different times (the rear wiper has never worked since I've owned it). Turns out the lights were just a broken wire. Sorted. And the wiper motor has been diagnosed as stuffed. There's power to the motor and the switch works, but the motor has had it. So time to find a replacement.

Cue every Subaru wrecker telling me Gen3 sedans don't come with rear wipers. Even tried ichiBen for a rear cut but no joy. I chased down the part number, and came across a cool site I haven't seen before. JP-carparts.com. If you haven't seen the site already go check it out.

Took the part number 86512AE010 to amayama.com and it's over 350 beans for a new one.

Tried Yahoo JP. Looking at AU$80 for a used assembly, plus handling/buyee/etc/shipping, so prob around $150 to my door.

Tried a used Gen3 wagon part. Can't find one locally.

Tried a used Gen3 wagon part on eBay. Found a few, all looking pretty tired and around $100 delivered. Intent there was to see if I can just swap the motor itself but keep my other bits. I figure that Mr Subaru isn't going to develop custom rear wiper motors for every model they make, and comparing by photo they look like a straight swap. Looks like common plugs & wiring layout.

Then I figured I'd check Impreza parts. Found a rear motor from a GDB, looks like it has had an easy life, and less than $50 delivered. Sign me up. AND MOAR STI PARTS! For high performance rear wiping.

Not a super exciting post! But I'm hoping for a win. And I love crossing fix-it jobs off the list.

Dang as soon as I saw the first pic I thought "that's the rear wiper motor from a GG wagon".

I've got one here, would have happily sold it for less than $50 shipped. Shoulda posted a WTB!

lol, not a worry. Thanks for the thought - just happy to have it sorted! Still happy at $50. Been driving for two years without a rear wiper :-)

Wipey McWipeFace is on the road. GDB motor fitted perfectly. Had to swap the wiper harness because the end plug was different. Otherwise it works a treat and was just over an hour (over half the time was messing around with the harness).

No pics because boring job.

How good! Probably the best feature we missed out on, my rear window is almost impossible to see out of in heavy rain, and after the rain, it's so dirty you can't see out of it when the sun shines as it glares the dirt. Very jealous.
