Will check fluids tomorrow but I think its 100% warn. Looks like the major service is getting done on my front lawn after all!

Mmm, time to break out the wallet.

Will that include timing belt, Dylan?

Oh and I forgot the engine mounts. Going to renew them. And maybe the gearbox mount. I've got a neighbour with a big double garage (she only has one car, too) which I am going to chat to on the weekend. Might over her fiddy a week or something to use it - would mean I can work on it day / night rain hail or shine to get this bastard of a service done!

Nice work Dylan :D Use the Bosche belt, the genuine Subaru one on my B4 had f**king splits in it when I rebuilt the engine at 73,000 Km... Reminds me f**k I got to get a gearbox mount, mines munted and clunking more then my diff. Dylan, do you have the diagram for the timing belt? to know where to line up all the sprockets etc and also were the belt travels around? they can actually be pretty handy and means you dont have to think too much. Paul, I agree that the Holden 4 speed cops far too much shit, its not the best thing in the world but its not that bad I could live with it.... the 5 speed is decent and the 6 speed of which I only know what the HSV GTS one is like was very nice.

Powerglides rawk.
100kmh in first, 200kmh in second. win.
Economy, wat?

Worst auto ever?
Subaru 4speed.
They explode behind engines with less than 100hp. Just ask me.

Worst Auto?

For me it was the E30 1990 Bosch Electronic 4 Speed Auto.
It didn't like dori dori action, despite the rest of the car lapping it up.
Miss the old eeeedurty.

Anyways, delivering some tofu one night, and it started to slip.
Baaaaaaaaaaad.
So I thought it'd cool overnight.
Mum jumped into her car
Started it, put it into d.
Redlining whilst rolling backwards proved that cooling down wasn't sufficient.

Hello $3500 exchange tranny. Not fun for a broke uni student.

Shiv

Nothing wrong with a two speed powerglide.

If anything, I highly rate them.

Its not about how many gears it has.....

all the kewl kids have powerglides.
end discussion.

the VE sv6 6spd box is a great box! infact the VE sv6 was a great car to drive, when compared to a BA XR6 i was surprised as to how poor it was to drive.

On saying that they were both rental cars, and i am comparing apples to oranges, but their both fruit :P

my 2cents

That's not really a fair comparison!

Firstly, the SV6 has a 5 speed auto box and you're comparing the VE's new transmission to a BA Falcon 4 speed that was released in 01, but the tranny dates back even further!

Anyway, horses for courses right?

Here's a quick one... My GF's cousin has an EL Fairmont. I'ts losing coolant after a water pump change over. I checked it over for him last night and all seems OK aside from the heater isn't pumping out any hot air. I conlcuded that his heater core/element is stuffed and that's potentially losing coolant. Sound about right to you guys?
