I think they'll start building ASAP. They'll order the soil test as soon as we settle on the land.

We had a bit of trouble securing the loan. They had an issue with the valuation. But the case my broker had made was fair enough that they couldn't say no. So they simply kept putting it in the too hard basket. In the end we agreed to cover the shortfall in their valuation. But it's meant that we are having to save our arses off to move in.

Edit: I found out today they ordered the soil test in late December.

Beautiful man. It's a good sign seeing things you've bought be constructed from the ground up. We bought a unit off the plan and our structure is due to complete in February, moving in August if all goes according to plan.

I can only imagine man. I've got close friends that had their property differ in value by about $50,000. They basically had to cough that up themselves to be able to get the loan otherwise they were literally up shit creek. I'm hoping our valuation comes through higher than what we were pre-approved on from about March last year... Sydney property is just stupid in all forms.

You know Syd property has declined right Gaz? And apartments will be the first to start depreciating. I'd be reviewing your finance to ensure you aren't screwing yourself.

As for dash cams, I looked at some on w/e, really can't see sense to it. After almost 10yrs of driving I have hardly had a moment that required one. Just doesn't seem to be worth the cost, obstruction to vision nor the possible electrical issues. In most accidents right of way can be determined without the need for footage, and a dash cam can hardly pick up accidents from the side or rear.

It has slowed down but it's still in the plus, and that's definitely one of the things we were worried about to be honest but we're hoping it doesn't end up that way. We have made money on it without it being physically built to date so hoping that buffer helps us.

Well mine did work that way for 18 months. The reviews on the model (Cowon AW2) say it's a common failure point. I've noticed that it overheats on hot days too.

I'm also having trouble accessing the settings with the Android App at the moment. So I'll try an iPhone tonight.

It still says it's recording. Will check the cards later. I can live with that for now. I can't sink anymore money into the issue.

Our land settles on Tuesday.

What part of Brisvegas are you building in ??

Then don't.

Honestly, RBA have been saying for the past 4yrs that there are a ton of better investments than property in Melb and Syd right now. If you pay rent and put your money somewhere else you will still be ok at the end of the day. If I were staying in Syd I wouldn't be buying at all, I can afford to rent right next to the beach and cafes, and have my money in a diverse (and by extension robust) portfolio, versus sinking all of my earning into a primary asset in an inflated market to live in bumfuck nowhere Western syd. Even if I move to Adl I am tossing up whether to buy or rent, as there's talk of a move overseas for a while.

Buying and owning your own home was good when the property was a certain percentage of your income, but right meow, fork it, YOLO Jase.

Crypto is insane. There's a couple of guys are work that are really into it. One guy has made $12,000 in about two or three weeks.

I made about 500 over the Christmas break. They've crashed pretty hard lately but will come back up soon

Yeah I've been holding back only because it's so volatile. One crypto can make so much one second and then become a loss the next.

Yeah a mate of mine got into a new one over the Xmas break. Can't remember it's name. Started out with $500 and added another $2G. Apparently he's about $5G up I think at this point and I'm pretty sure he's banking on this type of crypto to end up like bitcoin where it's a couple of hundred for one bitcoin as opposed to a dollar or so in the beginning...

Classic. It'll be reported tomorrow that it's up 60% -> forgetting it was down 30% today... Gotta love statistics!

Someone is selling their house for bitcoin. Dunno how much they're after but it'd be a pretty risky deal on the seller's behalf given how much this stuff bounces.

I wonder how long until the big4 try to can it in Australia?

Cheers

Nothing they can really do. The ATO set up a task force to try and "track" transactions. Which is impossible. The only thing they can do is tax you for money made from selling or block access to the exchanges.

I wouldnt say theyre the future, but theyre here to stay. In the best interest of the bank to work with them rather than try and fight it

No way to track them, but it'll definitely be taxed as you are making money from them just like you would with stock for example.

Haha, shit go. I keep seeing the graphs on my colleagues phone and they just go up and down so many times a day.

I will be.

Colleague sent me a referral link and some helpful links to read up on how to get set up and what not. Apparently I join CoinSpot, and read something called Banking on Bitcoin. I've also joined a Facebook group to see how it goes.

Not looking at investing too much. Probably start off with $500 or $1,000 and see how it goes. Any recommendations?

My money would be on North Lakes area, if a new build and that is where he is living atm, but who knows.

Heathwood in South Brisbane. It's on the edge of Brisbane City Council. Highway access in all directions. 20min Train ride from Oxley (where my girlfriend drops me off) to work in Brisbane. Fibre internet, double garage. It was the easiest compromise if we decided to build. Her family lives in Oxley. Her friend from work built in the estate 12 months ago and we visit them often. She's a lot more social than I am. The Northside becomes a bit of a ghost town after 9pm and she's used to easy access to Asian food and her friends.

My parents do live in North Lakes. It's about 45min on the highway. The same money would have got me the same end result there. 40min Express Train from Dakabin to get into Brisbane for work - total s**tfight for her to get to her work from the Northside. Traffic is about the same on both sides of Brisbane now.

Regarding the dash cams. It's working fine on my cigar fuse for now, but I don't trust giving it constant power anymore. A friend of ours got hit and run on a highway onramp. Insurance deemed as there was no proof, they were at fault. I have front and rear, but even a front facing camera could have got them speeding off in that situation. Chinese immigrants around Sunnybank - they just keep driving forward in carparks and expect you to move even if you have nowhere to go. I've had to blast my horn to stop a guy from driving directly towards me more than once.
