Nice, did you get grill through import monster? I ordered a GD 6mt shifter assembly a while ago (plus airfreight), hope it arrives soon!

EDIT: I saw that you used gen4 front hubs, was that hard to do or just a bolt in job? I'm wondering if that would be smart thing to do on my car if I go down this EZ30+canbus ecu route. It might solve half my problems (VSS for one), though it might mean that I need to use the newer ABS controller and then do something with the rear.

I'm tempted to pull a part the outback cluster and put the liberty gauges into it.

Came via DHL from Kaiguys. Would have been expensive but the grille was cheap so kinda works out.

Gen 4 hubs bolt on. Same basic geometry as normal hubs. The ABS is wildly different being in the bearing itself instead of a tone ring. I might just work but could also be an absolute nightmare and not worth doing

Time for brain photo again.

Been chasing an oil leak from the back of the engine. Ruled out the turbo and started poking around the bellhousing area. Nothing on the back of the flywheel or edge of the bell housing so was confident it wasn't the rear main. Given it was bone dry along with the rear separator when it went in I didnt touch either of them. While digging around the flange for the sump was wet. Given the sump was now on its 3 or 4th install its probably safe to say it wasn't the flattest anymore and likely wasnt sealing so did the un-fun job of getting it out. Found oil on the sealant which thankfully confirmed my theory. With the sump gone i could also get my hand properly into the bellhousing which was oil free as suspected
ZZOieHw.jpg

Didn't find anything sinister in the sump either so bearings are still happy from being started up after sitting for so long.

Ordered a fresh sump which took too long to arrive but is what it is
Lhe8fel.jpg

While waiting for the sump to arrive I went about installing the 1 1/16 master I had modified.

Paid way too much for some M10x1.0 to barb fittings to bench bleed it properly

And in the car

Also finally got my hand brake to work properly
AKzWFMi.jpg

Turns out the cable and pulled out of its bracket and was 10 cm further forward and not held in. Hence not working on 1 wheel. Was stoked as i thought it was a stretched cable and didnt want to deal with it again.

Kudos to you doing the sump in the car. Definitely not a fun job!

Seems that led into a few other niggly wins along the way.

Is this still pre-rego?

Cheers

Wasnt that bad just a bit fiddly doing the last 4 bolts along the back. Main issue was holding your arms above you the whole time.

Still pre-rego unfortunately. However the to-do list is down to bolt check and find random clunks

Nothing super important to update.

Spent sunday on my back under the car on ramps making sure everything was properly tight at ride height. Had a few clunks i wanted to get sorted. Most appeared after the alignment so figured theyd left the adjuster bolts loose. Wasnt expecting to find the front strut bolts totally finger tight though  :dash2:

In other news someone FINALLY parted out a complete GTB on yahoo so after 2 and a bit years of searching have a GTB rear seat on the way

Also did a crap job of making the front bar white cos why not. Dont look too close lmao

Running out of things to do so decided to stick my pods on. With actual bolts and stuff holding them on this time so even if the tape fails (which it always seems to do) the bolts will hold them on instead of being lost in a gutter

More parts that get me no closer to rego but are cool.

STi speedo and GTB tachometer for a more appropriate redline for the turbo engine

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it. In process of being stripped and sold off.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon. Scrapped.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. Scrapped.

MY13 BRG, current daily, very nice to drive, small mods to make it even nicer again.

BBS wheels went a longgggggggggg time ago. They were a bit too stancey and rubbed in the twisties, but couldnt be bothered/didnt want them without the reversed faces

Fair call. Not good having wheels that don't fit correctly. Scrubbage is shit. Is good seeing this thing come together!

Cheers, Ben

So, roady inspection 2 booked for wednesday 8am. Did some more random tinkering and testing. Hooked up the boost control solenoid using a welding tip as a restrictor pill. Might have used too small a pill cos it hit 20psi loaded up in 3rd and 4th. Td04 probably isnt loving that

Looking respectable out of the shed for once

Also snuck out for a cruise up the hwy to make sure its ok on a longer distance drive. It is :)

Looks awesome with the gold rims on white body!

All the best with the RWC. I reckon and would hope you’ve got it in the bag with all the effort you’ve put in!

Alright so. After a very anxious day waiting the results are in. Fail, but should be doable.

  • Suspension too firm. Tried to argue it as BS but wasnt budging. Dropped it cos didnt want to annoy the guy
  • Brakes not good enough. Expected this. Bloke suggested booster and I agree after some FSM testing
  • Needs a standard airbox. AFAIK pods are ok when mounted but again didnt want to annoy him. Borrowing one from a friend
  • Braided brake lines. Argued this as they are ADR approved. Said if i can prove they are he'll pass them. Found the docs
  • Plug holes in tailgate. Put the unpainted wing on
  • Handbrake needs to be tighter
  • Axle seal on the diff is leaking

Trip to the wreckers for a booster and some standard shocks and fingers crossed I can get this done.
