Hi, You should do everything in your power to get hold of a BrewDog Paradox Smokehead Stout mate. I'm about to have my last gulp, and for someone that just doesn't like smoke beer - that speaks volumes. These guys are amazing. They make beer exciting for everyone, the really traditional great beers are all so commercial now. These guys are making things like whisky stout and smoke beer and dark lager and (from Richo's report) real BLONDE accessible to us. I don't know if I'm alone, but I'm turned off by the vintage artwork labels - they do nothing for me, and I know a book should not be read by cover alone, but come on, excite me. My boy at the IBS keeps me beeped on all the new BrewDog stuff - and he knows I'll just take one of everything. Cheers, Nik

Sounds good mate, I checked it out thr the link and looks right up my alley!

I tend to go for cool names rather than the fancy artwork.

I need a good bottle shop!!

All that gets stocked round here is the commercial brands and as you pointed out even their "good" beers are lame these days.

Found my tasting notes from the w/end...

Wicked Elf P/Ale- looked a bit dark for a pale, had a enticing citrus hoppy aroma. Nice fine head, sweet hops flavour with well balanced bitterness. Great beer!

Murray's Brewing Co P/Ale- Not bad but not good either, nice hoppy aroma, was tad bitter for my liking and found it a bit "rough" on the palate. I'd rate it bout half as good as W/Elf.

Badger's Firsty Ferret- slight malty aroma with orange zest notes, nutty, malty, slight orange flavours with a nice bitterness to it.

La Chouffe Blond beer- Sweet herby smell, very smooth and creamy on the palate. It has corriander in it but couldn't taste it, just gave a nice "difference" to the brew.

Double Dog (Double pale ale) by Flying Dog First sip, BEST.HIGH.%.BEER.EVER!!! This is really drinkable, interestingly sweet (and I'd just had something sweet). Sweet smell from malt and the %, with a little hoppyness i think(?? honey smells) 11.5% and 85 IBU's, sooo bitter on the aftertaste! citrus (oranges) is starting to come in (im about 1/2 way into it) haha, even burping is bitter, haaaahhahaha Now this beer has warmed up a little more, it reminds me of Colonial Dr Quick (why did they get rid of it!! only ever had a 6 pack of it) *sob* why is it now over *gulps*

Thanks guys for the on-going stories of success and failure in the beer department here. I am really looking forward to trying some of the brews discussed here, and Nik I think I will head over to WA next year as well for MDSC weekend!

Bière de Garde (flying dog) I didn't know until just then, this is an actual style (apparently similar to Saison) However, to me, this one is a heffe! its a bloody Heffe! (well, very wheaty anyway hehe) better than the wienblahblah heffe, krystal and vitus IMO get it May not excite some, but its good
