some of the aroma/flavours you can get from differing hops
Aroma:
Citrus (orange, lemon and grapefruit)
"bubble gum", although I notice pasionfruit and pineapple style flavour
Floral/Potpourri
Grassy/Pine
Flavour:
Grassy/pine
Citrus
"spicy"
although flavour is technically aroma...
Malt and yeast also comes into play... but thats another story

Try and give one of these a try next, should be easy to find and not overly strong in flavour.

(or krystal or vitus)

If you want to get a bit more funky and malty

failing that, any good amber/pale should be good (I don't rate squires amber anymore). Being over that neck of the woods you might find it easy to get temple pale ale

If you happy with the lighter beers in that list, try some of these (yeast flavours... triples and wit's)

(this is like hoebag garden, but with taste)

aaaaand some more of the brews (no where near all of them... jeebus I have drunk a lot - No need to be on FB or be my frined to see these)

yes , i got a brew kit for Xmas .... i used to brew years ago , 2 brews a week (5 boxes stubbies) , i sold them to me mates for $6 / 6 pak , anytime of the day/night

I am a Sparklig Ale man , Pale sometimes ...
So with the new kit for xmas , a Kegorator was in my sights ..
the missus said "if i knew it was going to cost me more money , i wouldn't have got it"
i replied , "do you want to help me clean bottles"

Buy the Kegorator was the response ...

Looking forward to tomorrow night , tasting a "PiegAle" again (my initials are PJL)

Cool to see you logged in over here.
As for the bottles, considering how much SA gov gives you for returning them, the smart money is still on the keg for the long run.

We could just about have a brew team here!

Nik

I talked to my home brew dude where I gots my ingredients from and showed him some beer (the bad batch) reckons its a direct result of fermenting at to high a temperature (dah pretty much knew that).
My apartment is just too damn hot for it

Now.. I am out of beer that is worth drinking so I am going to do some fermenting in the kegerator while I have the chance (it can hold steady temps at upto 25 or 28 degrees or something like that...
I figure if I set it to say 19 degrees it should hold the fermentation nice and steady knowing that the wort will be a few degrees above ambient temp during fermentation.
Once the fermentation is nice and finished how would it go if I kegged it and than just stored it at room temp somewhere in the dark etc..... can this change the flavour of the beer still?
he reckons you don't have to refrigerate straight away - so long as you burp the keg of oxygen using CO2, I am just worried about the temperature change.
Thoughts Nikita?

I don't refridge straight away, so I say go for it. I leave kegs for days sometimes before they go in the coolroom.

You will find using that method darker beers come out a lot nicer than the light ones (easier), so a dark ale and maybe a red ale would be pretty cool. Haven't really looked into the kits much, what was the place you're getting them from again?
EDIT: Took ages to post, a stout would be better made in a couple of months time I would say. It's going to be hot as hell over February, and whilst I am a big goer for dark beers all year round, a stout would benefit from cooler ambient.

Nik

I got one of those drunken nun box sets as a gift from Red, very cool.
Richo: WHAT DID YOU THINK OF IT? I'm not sure I can pony up $35 for a forkin' lager!?
Cheers,
Nik
