Hi,

Apparently beer and mojito's don't mix.

First I've heard of this!

I decided to treat myself to a carton today. i wanted SN Torpedo IPA, but Dan's didnt have them in stock. So I went the cheap option and got Squires IPA. Still not a bad drop @ $50/carton. I wouldnt be surprised if they used Marris Otter malt in the IPA. It has a very familiar malt profile to the ESB we brewed this winter.

Sig worthy.

First few sips certainly didn't seem like a 10% brew!

[edit: Far too big a drink for a warm night :/]

Brewdog's "There Is No Santa" spiced Christmas beer. 4.7%
It's a stout brewed with cocoa nibs and Ginger stems. Gotta say I was a little underwhelmed by this one. Seemed to be lacking body and mouthfeel that you'd normally associate with a stout.
The Ginger is very prominent which, not being a Ginger fan, put me off a bit. Perhaps I needed to let it warm up a bit more. I've got a second one so I'll give it another shot closer to Christmas.

Sig worthy.

Hi,

4.7% isn't really 'stout' is it? I know there's heaps of them around that ABV, but the very word itself means big and powerful.

How did we lose our way?

What did they charge your arse for it?

Cheers,
Nik

So revisited that Brewdog "there is no santa" christmas stout. Meh. Really didnt rate it at all. Its the first Brewdog beer I havent enjoyed. Even after letting it warm firstly to about 10 degrees in the bottle before opening, and then further warming in my Snifter glass, it just didnt have any body. There were none of the rich roasted malt, coffee, choc flavours that you'd normally get from a stout. There was definitely a "christmassy" flavour to it, but just no supporting malt profile.

Anyway, just seen the release of this years Crown Ambassador Reserve Lager. a blend that includes about 3-4% of a batch aged in new french oak since March this year. Also used Galaxy (of course) hops that had been freshly harvested only a few hours before being chucked in the kettle. At $90 for a 750mL bottle i think I'll pass.

So what are we planning on drinking christmas day? Im hoping my IPAs will have cleared their Diactetyl by then, because apart from that it was tasting pretty bloody good. Other than that Im thinking of spending big on some Belgians. Westmalle Dubbel and Trippel come to mind.

Sig worthy.

Was encouraged by the guy at the Freo Doctor to try this after he saw me picking up a 6-pack of Torpedo IPA.

Glad he talked me into it. Damn tasty beer.
