indeed. Just working a recipe through promash now actually. Anyone have any funky addition ideas? Grapefruit zest
Im thinking Pale(45%), Pils(40%) and Vienna(15%) for the grist.
I think we are also going to try pitching a second yeast to get it to ferment out fully too. Saison yeast initially, then some other ale yeast maybe US05 to get some of that mango/peachiness.

Sig worthy.

Looks like this article went up on thewest.com.au a few days ago but the article got pulled for some reason.

Here is an archive of it.

Ale not so hearty at $17 for a pint

NICK SAS, The West Australian Updated December 31, 2011, 2:10 am

Ale not so hearty at $17 for a pint

A $17 oversize pint of boutique Belgian beer Hoegaarden at Hillarys pub The Breakwater has taken the title of Perth's most expensive.

Just five years after the most expensive pints in Perth cracked the $10 mark, a survey of 31 Perth pubs by The Weekend West revealed Perth full-strength beer drinkers are now paying an average of $10 a pint.

The survey, which assessed the price of 373 pints across Perth pubs, found The Breakwater's 640ml pint of Hoegaarden had taken over from Leederville pub The Garden, which served the same beer for $18 two years ago.

The Garden has since taken the beer off its menu.

City pub Belgium Beer Cafe came second, charging $16.70 for a pint (570ml) of boutique Belgium beer Leffe - up from $16.50 two years ago.

It was followed by a pint of Peroni, $14, at the Raffles Hotel, Applecross; an Asahi at the Wembley Hotel was $13.80 while a pint of Matso's Mango Beer at The Brook, Ellenbrook, was $13.

Other expensive tipples included a $9.90 middy (285ml) of Asahi at the Oxford Hotel and a $10 schooner (425ml) of French beer Kronenbourg at new inner-city rooftop bar The Aviary.

Perth's most expensive mid-strength was $9.30 for a pint of Super Dry 3.5 at South Perth pub the Windsor.

The survey found the average pint price for a full-strength beer in Perth was $9.97.

Australian Hotels Association WA chief executive Bradley Woods said WA's more expensive beer prices were mainly a result of the State's resistance to poker machines.

"They (poker machines) are used to subsidise beverage operations for the venues in other States," he said.

"We are a State that prides itself on putting hospitality first , and I would say the WA consumer is happy to pay a slight premium to keep gaming out."

Tony Dwyer, owner of pokie-free inner-city Melbourne pub The Rose Hotel, sells a pint of Carlton Draught for $8 and imported beers for $8.80.

He said his prices were about average and WA visitors to the pub were constantly commenting on his beer prices.

Sydney publican George Poulos, who owns a number of pubs across NSW including the Harbour View Hotel in The Rocks, said Sydney beer prices would be more expensive than Perth's if pokies disappeared.

Mr Poulos said he charges $7 to $7.50 a pint at the Harbour View Hotel.
The survey found the cheapest beer in WA was a pint of $7 Woolworths-brand Sail and Anchor Lager at The Como Hotel, which is owned by the Woolworths-backed ALH Group.

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

yes sorachi is pretty Posted Image'ing good in their Golden Ace. Pretty sure they tied up all of that hop that was allocated to australia.

$17 for a big "pint" of hoegaarden. No thanks. No chance im paying that for a Belgian wit, thats probably sat in the sun for at least part of its trip to "the Breakwater".

I remember going their on my Bucks do, and having $10 pints bought for me. If it wasnt for the fact that I was blind drunk I would have felt bad for my mates.

Sig worthy.

Hi,

@Article: The reason it would have been pulled is due to the blatant political undertone around the poker machines. I am GLAD we don't have them. They are depressing as all hell, and anyone that's been anywhere other than a cities major casino will agree.

We didn't have 'pokies' in 2006, and we don't have them now. So to try and justify a near 100% increase in beer prices on that fact is completely retarded.

Cheers,
Nik

Hi again,

THIS;

The survey found the cheapest beer in WA was a pint of $7 Woolworths-brand Sail and Anchor Lager at The Como Hotel, which is owned by the Woolworths-backed ALH Group.

Should be highlighted for just how scary the Posted Image'ing Woolworths group is these days. So many people think that just because you've left the supermarket, you've stopped spending with Woolies. They own all types of shit.

Cheers,
Nik

I think everyone involved in craft brewing is asking the same question. When will we get cans? Not sure if Feral will be the first to front the money for a canning line. seeing as he's putting in a new 50HL brewery in the next few months.

Why the Posted Image anheuser-busch even cares about the name is beyond me. They even market, the shit they call budwieser, as "bud". Just yanks being yanks and wanting everything for themselves.

Sig worthy.

had the idea of brewing a kolsch with a mint addition. So I steeped some mint leaves and figured it would probably be too overpowering. I though a nice summery beer with a refreshing minty twang to it. The mint would add some bitterness too. Hmmmm have to think a bit more. Maybe in a darker beer, like a porter.

Sig worthy.
