Looks good Barbs!

What’s wrong with your flywheel that you need to get it machined? And is that a dual pressure plate kit or just a generic image on the packaging? I’ve never dealt with a multi plate clutch before. Twice the fun if misaligned I bet!

Cheers

Single plate. Twin plate on the front is just marketing.

New clutch = machined flywheel. Says it on the box for warranty and just something ive always done.

Plus it has been sitting for 12 months and has some surface mess on it.

Are you expecting much change in pedal effort over a stock clutch?

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Hopefully minimal if any. Its only 25% more clamping over stock. Nothing wild

I'd be interested in what you think.

When I test drove my RB it had the stock clutch which was nice and light with a good feel. Between then and picking it up, a new Exedy clutch fitted that was supposed to be better than stock and I was told it would only have a small increase in pedal effort. Turned out it was too heavy for my liking (I used to drive a V8 Falcon with an 11" single plate, so I know what heavy fells like) so I replaced it with the Exedy 'stock' replacement. This is lighter than the previous clutch but in my mind still no where near the stock pedal weight. So far my experience has been a little hit and miss..

Looks like Xtreme only do a HD clutch for the 3.0R... :(

+1 for machining the flywheel each time the clutch is replaced. Cheap insurance.

Slave or master maybe getting a bit tired? Might be worth ordering an actual oem clutch from Partsouq or the like. Exedys oem replacement might be slightly different who knows. Clutch disc and cover was quite reasonable when i looked

Yeah, Partsouq would be a good way to go.
I have a spare slave kit, but I'll hold off replacing it until I get a master.

Yeah fair call on machining for warranty purposes. I think I’ve only ever fitted a new clutch kit once about ten years ago when I made my clutch disc explode. Usually when they start to slip I just throw a disc in again for some fresh meat for the pressure plate to do it’s stuff on. No high performance needs here, and always done on a budget.

I look forward to hearing about you having your Gen3 back in one piece again!

Cheers

:)

Apart from the replacement o-ring i used on the PS suction hose not being big enough and aerating the fluid so I swapped in a good used one all went without a hitch. Clutch is SUPER grabby. Right at the bottom of the pedal. Might see if i can adjust it, is also noticeably heavier but not stupidly heavy

Make sure you replace the line, too. Braided ones available if you swing that way.

Yep, did that a little while ago, as it was beginning to sweat.

While the box itself and engine have been cherry since getting back on the road ive had a speed based whirring noise under the shifter. Its been worrying enough to not drive it more than around the block. I figured the tailshaft was too far in, dont really know how it would be possible but I did have to use some effort to get the centre bearing lined up. Got under the car on tuesday night for a look and found some small shavings in the output hole thing. Got the tailshaft out and turns out the dust seal/cover/boot (black thing around the slip yoke) thing on the tailshaft had a flat spot and had been machining down where the tailshaft seal sits. I dont have a pic of the bent one but this part
obV1WNW.png

Given the shaft was Free.99 i cant complain and was at least glad id found the issue. Thankfully i hadnt driven it much and the damage was minimal and still holding oil etc. Got up early on saturday and drove across the city to my old stomping ground wreckers where they had 4 auto gen 3s, whipped a shaft out (with a quick inspection this time) and smashed it in when i got home. Im quite fast at changing them out now. Happy to say its all good. Just regular 6 speed noise with the harder bits in the drive line.

Took it for a test run into the city to do some retail therapy and all is well

Not sure if ive told you guys but im heading to Tasmania next week for a week long road trip in the car so expect some epic pics

Enjoy the boat ride over and have a new set of tyres ordered for your return ;) ;)

I miss the self serve wrecking yards around Melbourne, 2.5hrs away is too much to do it “regularly”.

Ordered an ebay special GDB shift boot a few weeks back. Normally my go to is redline goods but the "custom" 6 speed gen 2 one i got from them a while back was rubbish. Didnt fit tightly at all and used a flimsy piece of velcro to secure the boot instead of a press button like oem.

Anyway ebay boot finally arrived and after needing 8 hands and some masking tape to install it its looking the goods

Im back from tassie so buckle up for a photo dump

Parked up on the Ferry on saturday night. Took about 20 mins from arriving at the pier to getting onto the boat. I was expecting much worse
bJxSfM0.jpg

Obviously the ferry dumped us into Devonport at 7am, couldnt check into our hotel until 2pm so did some exploring around the north coast for a few hours

KDQ7Zj8.png

xLIDVKU.png

Got into Launceston and our hotel and had a nap and a quiet evening. Got up early the next day and checked out Cataract Gorge.

The Peacocks are very tame and can basically walk up to them
AsCYdab.jpg

Wallabies are much the same
25OdtPo.jpg

Later that afternoon we jumped back in the car and headed to Ben Lomond ski resort for a look. We didnt have any ski or snow play gear so just a walk and the best toastie ive ever had
tTg6oQF.jpg
J9XjVCR.jpg
jPeHabd.jpg

The next day we left Launceston and headed to Cradle Mountain.

Dusting of snow on the mountain itself and quite warm in the sun

From Cradle we headed 10 mins away to our Eco Luxury off grid tiny home thing. Quite the experience with no reception, no tv just basic (albeit very nice) accommodation and nature
YEuWDfR.jpg
XJLDd6T.jpg
FA9JcER.jpg
From there we headed into the West Coast. Roseberry for some 98 octane fuel, then back up to Zeehan and down into Strahan via the Henty Dunes.
RuFwMj1.jpg

Lunch in Strahan and booked some tickets for the West Coast Wilderness Railway the next day out of Queenstown, which as youd image was the next stop

Defs suggest doing the train if youre in the area.

From Queenstown we headed down into Hobart on the Lyell Highway via Lake St Claire

Stayed in a nice Hotel in the CBD and could see the snow o Mt Wellington from our room

Spent a morning on Bruny Island mainly driving down to the lighthouse at the bottom

Then back to Hobart and up Mt Wellington

Another night in Hobart then we set off on the final trip back up the centre of Tassie via the Highland Lakes HWY back to Devonport and the ferry home

Yeah mate mint trip! Ive only done the south west coast of Tassie with a stint in Queenstown doing work experience on the western wilderness railroad. Glad you enjoyed it! Did you go all the way into Strahan or just the half leg on the steam engine (best part)? Was Ally (I think that was her name from memory) still working there? Last I heard she became the first ever female train driver and also had her wedding involve the train too!

Another good tour from Strahan was the King River cruise. Good food and very interesting history of the area!

Hope the ferry ride was smooth, seems like it was for you. I remember my trip across to Tassie but not the return for some reason

Thanks for sharing another epic adventure of yours Barbs!

Cheers

Nah they're only doing the 2 separate trips. Cant do the full thing, i think cos of covid but cant really think of why. Too long with same people in the same air maybe idk

Work experience there would be awesome. Retiring and "working" at a tourist railway sounds very appealing to me lol
