Got the last final cuts and bends worked out for the first cold side pipe. Very happy with how it turned out
thYxnqq.jpg

I went and bought some proper stainless wire, fiddled with the settings a bit to account for the different wire and got stuck in
Y0pYIEl.jpg

Its not perfect, but being MIG its never going to lie nice and flat like a fusion tig weld. I have trouble keeping a good position when the pipe moves in 3D so thats something to work on. Its going to get painted/coated so all the grinding marks will go away. I then knocked over my bottle and damaged my regulator which let the rest of my gas out and promptly put a halt to everything. In other news ive ordered a 550x230mm intercooler core which should fit perfectly in the mouth of the bar without hanging like a VL

Good effort mate! You should be proud of that effort. Shame about the regulator. I had a leak in a hose dump half my bottle before I found it, not happy Jan!

Keep it up!

Cheers

Went and got a gas refill and a new regulator and finished of the welding of the first pipe. Also added a bracket to the manifold where the TMIC bolts to
gK2soAp.jpg

Also the new core arrived and looks like its going to fit very nicely

That looks pretty good. Are you planning on grinding the welds down when it's all done?

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Those are ground down. Tricky to do anymore with my grinder as the disc ends up hitting the rest of the pipe as you can see. Id like to get a smaller die grinder esque tool for more precise work

What sort of clearance do you have to the washer bottle Nick? Just thinking when the motor torques, the extra bracing to the TMIC bracket may force the piping to hit the bottle as opposed to just flexing the rubber manifold joiner.

Looks grouse though!

Cheers,

Ben

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it. In process of being stripped and sold off.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon. Scrapped.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. Scrapped.

MY13 BRG, current daily, very nice to drive, small mods to make it even nicer again.

Got the new core mounted and the bumper trimmed. Ive redone the top bracket in stainless because i could but the design is the same.

Had to cut more of the bar than i was expecting but thats how it goes. The jap style plate hides the centre post removal sins

Is it just the angle Nick, or is the core not centred? Probably the angle, but it's been a question I've had since I saw the pics initially... Looking like it'll do the job beautifully though.

Cheers,
Ben

Did some more trimming and fussing. I think its fairly centred at least visually and that will do. Its tough as the reo and the bumper both have holes bigger than their fasteners so basically everything is infinitely adjustable
CNF2tUS.jpg

Anyway one of the offcucts left over from the first pipe will do very nicely as the first pipe from the cooler
xyz3OCn.jpg

Needs a tiny but cut off just to get it straight but will do nicely

Looks good. Would the number plate hurt airflow?

Probably. Dont really care tbh. Learning experience and turbo noises mod rather than performance lol. The BH scoop is basically a letterbox anyway so probably still more surface area than that

Well import monster shipped the side skirts, but not my bumper or wheels. I was hoping to have at least the wheels for the annual christmas BBQ but thats just how it goes. Given there is no longer a timeline im not fussed about having the car down. So that means I think its time for the turbo to come out and get my HKS 3037 turbo mocked up to start work on a twist mount kit for it. Should be another fun experience

When’s the bbq happening? Might see if I can make it down for the session. Can’t promise anything though!

Geez that’s a fair hike for some, not that I can speak, I went to WA in 2007 for an end of year bbq… and last year did a day trip to the Wandi pub in the same area “just” for lunch at the pub.

I’ll see what I can do if the invite is inclusive of the older models. I’ll be in the brumby as the L isn’t active atm.

Cheers

Borrowed my old twist mount setup back as it went to a friend. My original idea was to basically just weld a T2 flange to a spare subaru flange and use that as a positional jig sort of thing. Unfortunately the GD manifolds have more shit hanging off them and the compressor housing hit the manifold. So i was left with floating a flange in 3D space and hoping it was a good spot. I found a scrap piece of flat bar with two holes in it about 20cm long that i could mount off the bellhousing and amazingly it was pretty damn bang on. One more bracket off the normal up pipe mount and we have a position.
ONSWoKt.jpg
kx21MWQ.jpg

The outlet will be more vertical but cos of the bracket it doesnt actually fit that far round. But that wont be there obviously. Also chopped up the up pipe to harvest its flange as 3 bolt flanges dont seem to exist separately unless you get them custom laser cut
