How long before you think this will be back under its own steam Nick? Once the wheels arrive, or is there more to do?

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it. In process of being stripped and sold off.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon. Scrapped.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. Scrapped.

MY13 BRG, current daily, very nice to drive, small mods to make it even nicer again.

Wheels arrive is the biggest delay atm as well as just waiting for pipes to arrive after ordering. Shooting myself in the foot a bit and going through sparesbox cos theyre 20% cheaper than direct from supplier (Aeroflow) but they take at least a week to even ship. Waiting on some 2" mandrel bends to do the up pipe atm. Then probably onto the hot side of the cooler piping, then dump pipe, then plumbing the turbo, then an intake

Had some more time in the shed to tinker. Still waiting on bits so started on the next cold side pipe past the timing case to see what else ill need to order. Ended up moving the remaining 90 bend i had to sneak past the rad hose. I would like a bit more room here for sanity but a miss is as good as a mile and the pipe is mounted to the chassis leg so wont be going anywhere
WjONtUX.jpg

I had an entire 45 bend so cut the end off and welded on another 45 section i had left over so get another 90, so im 1 90 bend away from getting the cold side sorted
zgRMTvt.jpg

First join will live under the headlight so it will be accessible ish
QPQPs3V.jpg

Also got the jig and headers setup on a test mule ready to go
eNGBrg6.jpg

Also turns out as well as breaking my old regulator the fall also sliced the gas hose, but you could only hear it with the gas flow cranked up. So it slowly leaked my bottle out, again. Called around to try and find another bottle (2:30 on a sunday) and all i could find was the next size up. Thankfully my existing empty bottle could go towards it so for $180 i got a D size bottle full. Happy with that as its about twice the size.

Ok time for an updoot. The up pipe bits arrived just in time for the cup long weekend. Saturday afternoon got stuck into it. Ended up basically fluking into this. It was a lot harder than i expected to make this. Certainly easier to free style the cooler pipes that only need to be in the rough area rather than a fixed spot
LaPU1tC.jpg
nwEwO3A.jpg
yz1fsJd.jpg

I ended up rotating the flange basically the width of a sharpie marker tip as while the turbo did fit the inlet was competing for space with the fuel rails and needed to have the header tank moved. This ever so slight rotation required clearancing the intake manifold but the amount of metal in the TGV housings is unreal so heaps to remove with 0 loss of meat or structure
GhU6DyR.jpg

Its tight but theres a gap everywhere
ckyLfV9.jpg
LnXwObw.jpg

The brake master clearance is somewhat on my mind as the clearance to the intake manifold will never change but the engine will move around somewhat. Only 1 way to find out.

Ive also made a bracket from some 5mm flat bar to support the up pipe. This was quite a pain as 5mm steel is harder to work with and i didnt want to it to place any tension on the up pipe when it was tight. Got there in the end
1IQds6Z.jpg

With the up pipe done I finished off the cold side intercooler piping with a 90 bend
Ba8eqU8.jpg
xL8gYCs.jpg

J49MxSE.jpg

Bar and fogs fit back over but it needs some tweaking to gain some more clearance to the fog buckets. Theres some wiggle room in the bolts and silicone so no major surgery required

Nice work dude! Looks good! Would definitely recommend having someone free rev the car while you watch the turbo/brake master clearance. That'll put your mind at ease or at least identify how much more clearance you need.

Looking forward to seeing this on the road.

Cheers,
Ben

Yeah that master cylinder is definitely too close - unless you have very solid engine and gearbox mounts!

Free revving the engine probably won’t show up all the engine movement as it’s not fully under load like it would be on the road in turns and under boost.

It’s only the clutch, not really needed :P

Top effort on your work!

Cheers

Yeah I played around with some spacers at the up pipe flange today and I'm gonna add 10mm~ where it necks down to 2".

Gave me about a fingers width so going to do that. I do have a solid pitch stopper and healthy engine mounts so movement should be minimal but yes peace of mind

Opted to add 50mm of height instead of pushing it back as it got close to the steering knuckle and the power steering lines. Much much much betterer

It’s a shame the outlet on the compressor doesn’t point 45° forward, that would make for a neat entry into the intercooler piping.

We've reach the point of the project where i get to spend way too much money on AN fittings.

I need to move the header tank forward on the intake manifold to properly clear a big turbo inlet. This clonks the stock GD style FPR. An adaptor to a hose barb and a remote aftermarket reg is the solution. After conning myself into thinking a -6 and a 90 fitting would work (it didnt, was taller than the stock reg lol) i found this on ebay
zVDOPDE.jpg
Perfect. Rummaged in my stash to find a non brass barb. Only have 3/8 NPT to -6 and its 1/8 NPT so add to cart
CUIRZPN.jpg
Also found this 10mm to -6AN for the PS res return hose.
KLNeorA.jpg
And a -6AN adaptor for the PS high pressure line. I forgot you have to order a matching bolt so the oem one is a stunt piece for the time being

Had some replacement olives arrive to reuse my old PTFE hose ends so made up some new power steering lines
ie8uulg.jpg
Was looking all good and neat
zDoMKAw.jpg
yLP42Mc.jpg
Then i put the up pipe in and it wasnt so good
rKvAIhw.jpg

Maybe 5-10mm clearance to admittedly the insulation of the high pressure line, so probably not the worst but i didnt like it. Did some thinking and ive got heaps of room out the other side so why not
VG8IW4I.jpg

The low pressure line can stay where it is as that has plenty of air gap and the insulation as well. You can see the routing of the high pressure line from here too

More pipes

Knocked out the hot side this weekend. Took way to forking long messing around with a bracket and off the abs inside the guard and finally just did this little tab to a rivnut where there was already a hole. Matched the radius of the pipe and job done
RTuqIE3.jpg
IrnAZ8s.jpg

From here the connection to the turbo is basically just a straight pipe with a very slight angle to line things up nicely
UIc6Nnl.jpg
jWssN7Y.jpg

With that done, the fmic setup is finished
Q7fk77z.jpg

I also drilled out and tapped the fuel reg nipple for 1/8 NPT to plug

Slight change of pace this weekend. The side skirts finally arrived. I assumed theyd be direct replacements but instead of clipping into the sills they are taped on, but still use the clips along the bottom. Subaru are weird.

I'm tipping the rear of the skirt to the rear lip is a similar sort of thing Nick? Or is the rev D rear lip not so bulbous on the leading edge?

Ben

Has a similar flared out whoop die doo that should work nicely. The D-E skirts really dont match the lines of anything, bit strange

Goodies
k7cSWvp.jpg

Wasnt even remotely expecting this stuff until december and wouldnt have been surprised if it was January. Only left japan 4 weeks ago. Thats faster than pre covid times.

Anyway amazingly the wheels do actually fit the brembos but only by a hair. Going to get some 3mm spacers for my own sanity. They look amazing though
uM9ibIJ.jpg

And rear aero bumper/lip. The muffler is currently sagging as the other end isnt hooked up. When i put the dump pipe back in it should fit properly
