Looking good there Nick. Can't wait to see it on the ground without the massive 4wd lift look going on.

Cheers,
Ben

The new wheels look great and completely change the look of the car.

A thicker coat of paint on those calipers and they'd probably hit the rims!

Time to blow the layer of dust off this thread

Was basically forced to buy some rear brembos off a mate for a stonks pre covid price. Theyre not going anywhere near the car any time soon but glad i have them
y0WmGoW.jpg

I spent $200 on AN fittings and hose off ali express cos thats where it all comes from anyway. Locally itd be worth $600+. Just done the turbo coolant lines for now
pT5zSVn.jpg
jCZiwRq.jpg

Chopped the 3.5" 90 for an intake. ABS makes it a real ***** to get it where id like it but thats just how it is
99UYeQz.jpg

My ever fantastic partner bought me a Tig for christmas so i redid the cold side for some nicer welds
svlsRC9.jpg
Added a bung to the intake for breather return
qT3OOB7.jpg
A little extension on a pipe for more hose clamp room
cNHqTsM.jpg

And a terrible dump pipe made from scrap i had lying around. Its ugly af but its 3" and still mandrel (mostly) bends
RIHyXAo.jpg

Ive got a shit load to learn with the Tig. Im still currently cooking the metal which is why the filler beads are grey. I am comfortable fusion welding and moving fast enough to keep the nice pretty stainless colours but cant move and fill fast enough yet. Also in other news i ordered a Turbosmart 40mm gate. Its the older Gen 4 model but itll do things perfectly fine

“Forced”, did he twist your arm with his pinky to buy those brembos?? :P

Sounds like your partner is a real keeper mate! What did you get her for Christmas?

You’ll get there with the TIG welding, as usual, it’s all practice! Change materials and you’ll need to readjust to get it looking schmick again, but not as hard as initially learning from my understanding.

As your skills get better there’s no reason why you couldn’t replace those bits if you’re not happy with them displaying your early skills!

Having one of those atm would be super handy with some alloy welding I’m trying to avoid for one of my current projects ;) Have fun and I look forward to seeing your skills develop to master level!

Cheers

Had a big weekend on the tools doing all the fiddley shitty jobs id been putting off in favour of fabrication. Things like

  • Making the header tank fit. By moving it forward i lost bonnet clearance as it slopes downwards. Had to grind down the mounts on the intake manifold which are thankfully 3x the size they need to be. Its still friends with basically everything but it "fits
  • I cracked the intake manifold by threading in my vac nipple delete too far. So swapped in a replacement one with a fresh coat of "Evoke" paint. Some kind of Holden colour. Didnt crack this one thankfully. In the process i removed the extra fuel hardlines under the manifold so only the feed hardline is there
  • Mounted the FPR and ran the new -6 line under the intake manifold
  • Mounted and plumbed catch cans to the intake
  • Welded a new bung on the intake for the head return from the catch can
  • Mounted/restrained various hoses with P clips and stuff
  • Remade the 90 from the intercooler to the cold side that lives behind the bar as i replaced the 2x 45 with 1 90 piece
  • Bunch of other stuff i probably forgot

Nothing is tight or clamped really but its getting there

Looks busy in there Barbs, but not in a way that detracts from the time and effort of the work put in and the functionality of everything under there.

Keep up the good work!

Yes the ABS makes it quite tricky to fit things. I realised last night the 3 port catch can is right where the HID ballast wants to live so it needs to move.

Are you running aftermarket headlights Nick? Cos the ballast on stock headlights sits under the light itself. Or is the catch can fowling on the lights removable rear cover?

Is it worth trying to move the ABS unit? Maybe out of the engine bay to inside wheelarch?

ABS would be a prick to move I'd imagine Jase, probably a lot easier to move the battery to the boot and then move the catch can to where the battery used to live.

Cheers,
Ben

Sorry yes the rear dust cover thing.

Batteries belong in engine bays IMO, even more so with a wagon. Wouldn't even bother to begin considering moving abs. Would just delete it. Not interested in doing that either tbh. Only happened in my BG cos it was already removed.

Once its running and tuned the fettling and organising can happen

Wastegate finally arrived. I originally wanted to put it straight off the headers under the car but there is not enough room down there to merge the 2 runners, at least not with my current skillset. So opted for the more traditional spot of back of the up pipe
r8HzpSD.png

This puts the gate just under the dump flange in the little recess in the bell housing. I think the normal thing is to snake a pipe past the steering column but that would leave a lot of weight hanging on a long piece and ive got the room to run the dump like that instead

On a completely unrelated note we decided to upgrade our daily to something a bit more exciting
glNCPCy.png

6 speed manual I30N sedan (elantra really) dont know why they rebranded it as i30 here. Totally different interior and longer wheel base lol. Super fun to zip around in but very different driving experience to a 20 year old Subaru (funnily enough), so the Legacy wont be going anywhere
