Sparesbox did their usual trick of not even shipping after a week and not replying to eta emails so cancelled and ordered from different suppliers.
A fresh bend for the wastegate stuff and turbo are due to arrive tomorrow, fingers crossed the express post order i placed this morning for new oil drain arrives tomorrow but worst case its monday and that still works fine for me

Its tough cos they usually have the BEST prices by far, and if youre not in a rush you will get your stuff eventually. They do sometimes also ship in a timely manner. Luck of the draw
Most likely if you order common stuff like servicing parts or brake bits etc its gonna come pretty quick cos theyll have the volume order. When its fitting bits and bobs or fabrication stuff its defs the long con

Had everything i needed arrive on friday afternoon which was nice
- Turbo
- -10AN Pushlock for the AN oil drain
- 1" fire sleave
- 2 replacement PTFE hose olives
- 1 3/4" 304 bend
In reality i didnt end up using the olives or the spare bend, but if i didnt order it id have needed it
Spent the weekend stripping the rest of the stuff down to get to the oil drain. I was expecting a fight to get the stock one out but once i undid the bolt it came straight out. Not surprised it was leaking. Its also bent and considering its a proper single turbo one, absolutely been out before
I replaced it with one of these
10AN IAG fitting with some nice orings to keep it sealed. Thankfully its a steel fitting as i had to tap it in with a hammer
With all that sorted i got the up pipe, dump and turbine housing back in so i could redo the wastegate. This time instead of welding the flange directly to the up pipe i made a small fishmouth section to space it a few mm off which gave room to weld it all up with the gate attached
I am quite happy with how this came out
I stupidly cut my brackets off the dump and screamer pipe expecting them to have moved, which it did but it certainly could have been workable. Anyway the old screamer pipe needed no changes to fit just had to remake the brackets
Gave the compressor housing the same coat of paint as the intake manifold
And back together
and running
https://youtu.be/vNk-F2eKhi0
Still up on stands as i need to clearance the cooler pipe by the radiator hose. When the system has pressure it touches the pipe so some more speed dents are required. If i was to do it again id do 2.25 instead of 2.5". Hopefully knock that over tonight and take it for a spin and tune tickle. Ive also since replaced the pod filter as i noticed there was some sparkles in it. Shame to bin a $90 filter but not risking $1200 over it lol

After putting some more speed dents in the intercooler pipe and doing some more fettling I made the maiden voyage to the servo
Made it there fine but was leaking coolant as usual. Got it home and found the turbo fittings were leaking. Probably cos i reused the alloy crush washers. Sometimes theyre fine sometimes theyre not. This time they werent fine obviously. After letting it cool down i set about changing them and promptly snapped one of the -8AN adaptors. Thankfully i was able to spin the broken bits out. Probably safe to say the ali express fitting didnt like being drilled out from 8mm ID to 9.5 to closer match the aeroflow one. Anyway found an M14x1.5 to 1/2 Barb adaptor in my stash
The other half's new home
Another quick lap of the block later and seems to be holding its drinks. Tune is pretty much fine still but gonna have Rob eyeball it tonight maybe

While the turbo fittings were now dry the block fitting was weeping. What I planned on being a 30 minute in and out job to replace the crush washer turned into 4 hours when i dropped the adaptor fitting and long story short it ended up between the engine mount bracket and the block. An absolute forking ball ache to get out later involving undoing every fitting on the head and destroying my back and hands it was finally back in with a fresh crush washer and tight.
Thank fork its finally leak free. Tune was given the all clear and due to having fixed the waste gate flange leaking its gained an extra 2 psi to the proper waste gate pressure of 14.
Cool heatshield back on
First drive not just around the block or back country roads in 6-8 months for some mexican food
Now to not touch the ***** in any major way for a while. I suspect the transfer case bearings have started to be on the way out as there is a hum under the shifter at cruising speed. Something thats doable in the car but may or may not require specialist tools/shims so dunno whats gonna happen with that one. Problem for Ron

Good to see her on the road again!
Transfer case guts are easy to extract - undo the back plate with the snout ('extension case') and the whole shebang pulls straight out - transfer drive shaft, driven shaft and center diff. Bearings are interference fit on the shafts.

Easy to get out yes but the guts of it are a bit different with the 6 speed.
More i look into it more its defs a job for a professional with the right tools

Look into pinpointing where it’s coming from (not easy at cruise speed!) and be prepared for a potential full gearbox overhaul.

My brain diagnosis with absolutely 0 investigation is either transfer case bearings
or
Tail shaft centre bearing
6 speeds seem to be doing the transfer case bearings around the 20~ year old mark. Not bad really

I zoomed in on my bad bearing by putting the car up on stands in gear and doing the ol' broomstick to the ear-hole trick.
Worked surprisingly well.

Love that trick. Big ass screwdriver is also good.

Just make sure you have a hoist for this. Jack stands suck especially if/when they fall over…
