Nothing particularly interesting happening just a few small jobs

Ive abandoned the idea of using AN PTFE line for the boost control. I priced up the cost to do it with a mac valve and new fittings etc and it was over $200 in just hose ends alone let alone another $100 for the solenoid etc. Opted to reuse the Pierburg solenoid i already had, some silicone hose and plenty of heat sleaving. Total cost is about $70
DfphyOe.jpg
The angle makes the clearance to the dump look worse than it is. Theres an easy 30mm between the 2. I bought some nice oem style spring clamps but the Tee fitting doesnt expand the silicone enough to make the clamp properly so ill probably order a 5mm instead of 4mm. Problem for Ron as the cable ties work fine for now.

While poking around i noticed a turbo bolt was loose so tightened that up
ZSjN4Y5.jpg

I replaced the exhaust manifold to heads and lower up pipe gasket with new MLS gaskets, a proper clean of all the flanges and some fresh high temp slaz. Didnt see any other exhaust leaks so hoping that turbo bolt was the one id been hearing.

Next job was to adjust the muffler. Id mounted it to suit the standard bumper and upon fitting the aero lip made things a bit toight and had started to melt the lip. Easy job, cut the hangers off, tidy things up, hold the muffler where it needs to be with the jack and weld the hangers back on. I was going to mig it all but the gas bottle was mysteriously empty again. I 1mm of argon left on the tig bottle so managed to make that last and bent myself into some new angles tigging them on the car before pulling it all off to weld properly on the bench.

kkJrMZY.jpg
L7L6XAn.jpg

Ideally it'd come forward some more but the barrel of the muffler is about as far forward as it can come before it touches the body and i dont have any big pipe to extend the tip so thatll do for now

What’s the fix for the melted bit of bumper bar? Not as bad as I thought it would be but still…

Got to it before it became an issue. It's fine under the soot. It's a bit worse inside the lip but you can't see that bit

Keep reading OMR. I found a manual trim. Its just an option, was available across the whole range

When you put it like that, I'm working on the TT Cruise control system and audio install at the moment.

As usual unnecessary purchases

Current turbine housing A/R is 0.61. Perfectly sized for a 2L. I am however a sucker for pain and want to run a big housing for science. See what the gains are and see what the change in response is like. HKS thankfully made lots of options but theyre hard to find being 20+ years old.

Stumbled across this big 1.01 (probably as big as they came or near enough) housing the other day and scored it for $30 last night

The difference in scroll size is huge
vs the current 0.61

I'm definitely interested to see how much lag there is with that housing. But you'd need to run a different tune to use it properly yes? Testing purposes maybe not so much?
Excuse the questions, I am just using logic, and don't actually know.

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it. In process of being stripped and sold off.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon. Scrapped.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. Scrapped.

MY13 BRG, current daily, very nice to drive, small mods to make it even nicer again.

Yeah will need a tune touch up and in reality a new engine and e85 to take advantage of it lol

Makes sense, wasn't far off the money then. Looking forward to seeing the results.

Always something to do Bennie

Decided i dont need the crank case catch can which meant i "needed" to redo my intake to move the crank breather port to the front of the pipe
04298Oz.png

Also redid the remaining breather hoses with nylon braided -8 hoses and some AN breather adaptors i got for my birthday from my partner
uzDoBeS.png

With that sorted I flashed on a new tune from Wob to turn the boost up which did nothing. Tried more duty cycle which also did nothing. Took another look at the boost solenoid and changed some hoses and it maybe worked slightly. Gonna try the more duty cycle tune again and if that doesnt work replumb the the lines as a normal 3 port setup. We suspect the pierburg solenoid just doesnt work the way we want it to work with the top port of the gate. Might have to just get a mac valve one day but problem for Ron

Finally got around to doing more tuning stuff

More duty tune on the updated plumbing did nothing again. So a quick roadside re-routing of hoses to the traditional 3 port plumbing and reflashing the base duty cycle tune finally worked. Whatever is inside the pierburg solenoid doesnt work for top port stuff on the gate/
FXwYI3F.png

Peak boost is now 18~ psi but needed some more work to get it coming on a bit sooner by keeping the gate shut. Wob was free in the afternoon so some more remote tuning got it sorted in about an hour.

So tidy Barbs! I just started driving Basil (Sister’s RX Lib) and he’s pretty beaten up but keeps on keeping on. Best feature is the exhaust note and how it’s EJ251 pulls like a freight train still - but wouldn’t have a thing on your Gen 3 by a long shot!

Went for a trip. Was good. Heres pics

Car loaded up with 2 swags and camping gear
m9JkMXS.jpg

Left Wednesday night after work and headed for Holbrook as usual. Got in around 10pm. Left early the next day for the rest of the hume and picked up another mate in Bargo and said hello to his cat
KzWZXn2.jpg
PY583j6.jpg

Went to the servo and got fuel where this happened
WCjo7RD.jpg

Thankfully escaped with a warning about the intercooler and basically told dont get pulled over again in NSW. Think a big issue was the plate. Their system picked it up as a NSW plate but wasnt registered. Clarified it was a vic plate and the tone of the conversation changed.

90 min drive up the coast to another mates place for the night where the bumper came off for a intercooler hiding coat of black paint that id been procrastinating on
YzhpyLn.jpg

Met up with the rest of the crew in Newcastle on friday morning and got stuck into the actual trip.

TzjE6Ei.jpg

Day in the car with some stops of a chin wag and coffee we got into Walcha around 3pm and loaded up on some dinner for the night at the Apsley Falls again. Forecast was for -4 overnight and it certainly got there
mJuAfHP.jpg

Great night around the fire with some steak rolls and a few beers.

Woke up the next morning to frost on the inside of the swag and frozen cars. Gathered ourselves around the remainder of the fire and packed up for the trip home down the Oxley highway.
Gp65Xd7.jpg
Gbb0Ake.jpg

Stopped at a cafe along the hwy for some breakfast in the sun and watching some animals go about their morning
NaPGep4.jpg

Ended up back on the coast for some fish and chips for lunch with another awesome view
hRrpbzk.jpg

Said our goodbyes and headed back to Sydney for the night. Then another early morning to smash out the hume. Pulled in home at about 5:30 on Sunday

11/10 will do again.
