Set the post in the existing hole in the concrete drive? Or set back where it ends. (prefer to have the gate where it sits in that pic, as it's in line with the house!

That latch is a great idea too! Cheers!

Its a bit hard too see (move your thumb) but you could cut the hole out to where you need the post to be.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Second pic is the "hole" left by the old post. But I have a feeling it was there before the concrete was laid, so even if i was to cut out the concrete driveway slab, I may be met with the concrete poured to hold the original post in. Plus the rest of the post is still in the ground.

This is why i was thinking the steel post option.

My 2c -

Bring the gate back to the grass line. It's close enough to the current position ;)

Hire a post hole digger for a morning and dig two deep holes on either side of the drive.
Throw lengths of treated pine down there and cement them up.
Wait a good week so it's definitely solid and straight.
Hinge the gate up to your desired side and a latch to the other.

By the size of your gate (assuming you're to recycle it) it will have to be hinged on either the front or back of the post and will only be able to open in one direction?

We've done 3 gates this way over the years and they've held up fantastically. We also used round pine logs but depending on your style, you might prefer the square ones.

Here's our most recent one (from a few pages back) -

Thanks Morgan, The fittings i have allow the gate to swing in both directions, as long as there is clearance!

I'm hoping to have it in line with the house, because i like straight lines :P

Hi Adam,

Steel post bolted to the concrete. Only thing with that is I can't really see how thick that slab is?

Or just mount it to the side of your house.

Cheers,
Nik

Size of post and plate seem ok? 100x5 on an 8mm plate?

Hi,

If you want it to sit just off the ground, so the pooch can't bail, you only need it a touch taller than the gate itself.

Cheers,
Nik

Hi.

100sq will be heaps mate. I just went for a look but I can't find the couple I've got made up. I think they were 80sq with yeah, probably 8mm base plate. Four holes, and chemi'd into the concrete.

One of them held up a hose reel far heavier than your gate.

Cheers,
Nik

Did that STi rim sell?

I've got a black 3.0 R-B rim that I'm going to use when I get a haus.

Hi,

How would you mount it so that it spins? Through the centre cap? Does that work?

Cheers,
Nik
