I put up with people from amnesty, red cross and now the cancer council almost daily hounding me!! Throw in the greens, green peace, unhcr, save the forking children and I've well and truly hit my limit for the number of fuckstains wanting me to sign something or give money. Seriously cubts,  :fork: right off.

So we've plugged te right plug in. Still doesn't fire. Nothing is working, so we've narrowed it down to the ECU not powering up. All windows and sunroof and **** work though.

Thoughts on why ecu isn't powering up?

Shazza

Does the ECU work mate?

Aek might have one you can swap in to try and see if it works, give it a go as the ECU could be shagged?

Checked main fuses, in both kick panel and engine bay (obvious question I know)?

I would talk more with Al mate, I don't understand how things have gone so wrong. I have never heard a bad thing about his looms before, everyone I know of (myself included) it has all been plug and play... If everything is plugged in (and generally the plugs only mate up to their opposite, can't really plug things in to the wrong place on the Subaru looms) I don't know what could be causing issues apart from a fuse problem, a relay problem or a bung ECU.

I am not an auto electrician though so don't quote me :)

Well, it came from Ichiban in working order they reckon?

I might plug my Liberty ECU in (I think the plugs are the same) and if it fires up, its the ECU.
If it doesnt, it's not the ECU.

I'll plug the Subaru scanner in once the Liberty ECU and see if i get anything other then "No Handshake (Connection Error)"

Shazza

Yeah, all fuses have been checked and replaced.
Replacing Relays and shiz tonight on both kick panels and bay.

Al has been super helpful over the phone. Generally speaking, yeah, it should be plug and play. There is one more plug which didn't plug into anything, so i'll chuck a M/Meter on it tonight, and try and work out what it is.

I don't think its a bung ecu though, because even the body computer isn't powering up.

Cheers,
Shazza

'Body computer' what is this ??

No worries mate, wish I could be of more assistance. Remember, don't rule anything out ! If there is another easy way you can replace the unit to test you should make sure you do it !

I had a similar issue when my conversion was complete, no power to ECU.

Turns out the ECU was physically SMASHED. The board inside the case was shattered. Worth checking out mate , can't assume anything with this stuff!

Sorry, i should clarify about the body computer. My mate has 2 scanners, 1 for the body and 1 for the engine. Neither reads any kind of signal.

I might unscrew the cover of the ecu and have a look see inside. But i don't think it is that. If when i plug the liberty one in, and it gets a reading, then it is 100% the ECU.

Wish me luck! If it isn't running by Sunday 12am, it is going to be getting on a tow truck, and towed elsewhere.

Cheers,
Shazza

id be checking between the loom in your car and the loom that was in your car, pins may have changed throughout the years/ series, which i know from experience the gen2's do, it may have sent power where power isnt meant to go and blown the ecu :(

Not fully running yet. Idles fine, but the dump pipe doesn't fit. So I'm gunna have to try and work something out with that.

Check engine light is flashing
Abs light is on.

Long story short, an ecu plug fell out.

Cheers,
Shazza

Sweet! good to hear you got it going mate... :)

check engine light - just check with the scan tool, likely due to no dump..

If you figure out the ABS light issue lemme know? mines still stuck ON and going strong... (pretty sure its due to AUTO to MANUAL conversion - abs sensor thinking auto Tranny).

Good to hear it's up and running, good luck sorting out the little issues. Abs light due to the fact you changed your calipers over?

Gents,

What a night. After going through and trying absolutely everything, I decided to see if the ecu was fried, and thought I'd chuck the liberty one in just to test. Upon unscrewing the ecu cover plate, I noticed only 2 of the 3 plugs were in. So I plugged it in, turned the key and it roared to life.

Engine idles fine, fans turn on at 96 and off at 89. Everything mechanical is now complete, most of interior is back together. No overheating, strong compression (around 165 in each cylinder) gearbox is fine, diff is fine, clutch is fine.

Next step is to get an exhaust system on, and actually register it (ran out of rego 5 days ago) so basically just have to pay for it (mate who done conversion will register it for me) Engineering can come later once it's due for rego again.

So farking happy it kicked over. Biiiiiiiig sigh of relief, followed by some well deserved beverages, and a call to the missus at 2am to come collect me from the workshop.

Pics tomoz.

Cheers,
Shazza
