So bit of an update.. The cars STILL in the shop.. Thave had problems with the cams in the AVC .. having them stop working during tuning.. They pulled the front of the engine off to clean it out and then thaught the problem was fixed but its returned now...

They are now speaking with AM auto trying to get to the bottom of it..

Im half tempted to lock the AVC up and fork it off..

Turbo Yoda should be able to work it out.
Hope it's a quick & cheap fix.

Yup.. End of straws here.. I forking hate paying mechanics for their time and them not fixing the problem..

I know they are trying things to fix it but im now down atleast 4 hours at $125 a hour for a solution that didnt solve it..

All its done is rule out the actually cams being the problem..

i don't understand how they are charging you for the labour to fix something on an engine that they built. If they built the engine thats not working they should be fixing it. obviously if the issue is found to be in a part of the work which you did at home before taking it to them i can understand.

Have you put any more thought into squeezing some more power out of the engine. Like strapping on one of those intake fans

They blame wiring etc.. which I did but as far as I know the loom to the engine from the ECU would of stayed intact..

I think the parts where the cams are controlled wasnt rebuilt .. I dunno.. its kinda falling into a place of limbo and im taking the fall for it..

Workshops will always try and blame someone/something else that isnt of their making for problems. That way you still pay them. Take the hard line on this one man. If they built the damn thing, they should be making it work. And if they didnt have the heads apart for at least a clean when they did the build, they should be shot for missing a major part...

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it. In process of being stripped and sold off.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon. Scrapped.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. Scrapped.

MY13 BRG, current daily, very nice to drive, small mods to make it even nicer again.

So they have found whats causing the drop out on the AVCs .. they checked the pin outs on the ECU and all looks good.. And then followed down the loom so all looks ok electrical wise..

SO its been put down to dodgy Inlet cam sprockets.. SO trying to source some now as subaru want $600 a side for them..

This may be the last thing tho :)

Yea It is man.. And ive saved myself a easy $400 by shopping around..

Looking forward to seeing how it goes after the tune.. It was only margin-ably faster than when the 2.5 was in it running wastegate pressure..

Im sure 24 PSI and 242 kw will be noticeably quicker.. I've been waiting so long to get the Mrs in it and make her scream..
