Is is just me, or could the LC Pale taste a little more like an IPA on occasion?
Hmmm not really. When you have the pale back to back with an IPA you'll see why. We do still batch brew, so sometimes we might get a brew that's slightly hoppier. But it still has to be in spec before release, so were only talking slight difference.
I'd suggest its probably your palate. I know some days ill have the pale and swear its the best beer ever brewed. Then other days I can be meh.

I assume you have tried using two nuts, one to lock the other nut and turn the locked nut in order to spin the stud out

I have a felling they don't, basically all the bolts and nuts are on those little champion rotating racks. A specialty nuts and bolts place would be the best bet
