Yes Adam, the tree.
Also, keep an eye on the tree when it blossoms...If you end up with ants cruising up and down the trunk, you have some sort of scale or mite. Spray more.
You can wrap a grease soaked, canvas strap around the trunk(about a foot from the base), to physically stop the ants (which have a symbiotic relationship with the bugs) passage up and down the tree.

I didnt see anything like that last year! Ill give it a spray though if i remember 
Last year I pruned it pretty harshly. It hadnt been done in a while, and it was about 4m high and tall and skinny!
