Hi guys,

As some of you know I have a gen 3 lib, it handles nicely but gets cut down at the lights by Hyundai i30s. So I have narrowed down my next car choices to 3 options, a b4 or a STi or maybe a nissan but I won't say that naughty word on this forum.

Which would I have more fun with in terms of outright handling and performance for approximately the same cost?

For example a stock b4 with around 150,000 kms is $11,000 and a GC8 STi is around $15,000 for similar kilometres with usual a few mods.

Those who know either car better than me might be able to offer a recommendation to easy this difficult decision..

Any advice welcome,

Cheers.

STi = expensive to make go fast but out of the box goes around corners good.

Skyline = Go fast in a straight line but look like a wanker

As a former B4 owner, i'd suggest crossing that off your list right up front.

Hope this helps.
- Alex.

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

Could you expand on the b4?

Also I thought a tune, fuel pump and a TBE will see a STi at 200kw atw?

Cheers

I've owned a B4 and currently own an sti, so i'm not trying to talk you out of either but just add up the cost of buying the car then modding it up to a SAFE AND RELIABLE power output.

If you can afford it, i'd go the sti.

B4's are hard to find parts, hard to find someone to work on them (if you can't do it yourself) and honestly is it worth spending $11k on an underpowered 12 year old car?

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

Since you've owned both, how would you compare the two cars? Handling and Power mainly.

I've driven a 07 STi but not a b4, and I found it quick and wouldn't need to touch the power on it for a lengthy amount of time.

I don't find the GC8's to be built very well (bodywork/trim etc). But that's just me. If you want to mod for power and fun, then thats what I'd be getting though. B4 is ok as long as you just maintain it and drive it as is.

Or you can buy Jakes built Gen3 for $16k and drive it back to WA with most of the work already done.

Wouldn't it be a nightmare to get registered?

If not then that could be an idea..

To quote the great Gordon Ramsey, the difference is night and day.

I have an MY06 STI (first of the 2.5L with dccd) and it's an entirely different car to the B4.

My sti will be on the market in around 1 months time if you are interested (i'm in WA too).

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

I'd go for the Nissan, purely because you will get more bang for buck out of Nissan then you would out of Subaru.

Thats just me though.

What Nissan model are you thinking of?

Cheers,

Shaz

i wouldnt buy any of them. id buy a golf gti or r32 with dsg 7speed paddle shift.

Have you put any more thought into squeezing some more power out of the engine. Like strapping on one of those intake fans

Either a skyline or a s13/15. Would want something clean if it was that old and that might be a challenge.

I have a B4... and to be honest, I wouldn't recommend it too much for speed and power.. but then again, I have an auto...

Buy a bug eye rex.. get a nice one for cheap these days..

Nissans.. All the nice fast RWD ones give off instant wanker recognition.. Except maybe a wagon

I would buy a bug eye if I didn't have to look at it.

I can live with being a wanker as long as I go fast..

Could look at a fresh import for one of those. Budget depending of course
