Looks pretty good.

I'm thinking of letting my HTPC system go because i've switched to a basic WDTVlive.

It's an older as rock ION 330HT with I think 4GB Ram and a 250 gig HDD. Anyone interested? I'm not really sure what it's worth.

I'm actually just looking for a slim form factor PC to leave next to the entertainment unit, always connected to the TV via HDMI and on standby usually, so if I wanted to do something on the big screen on the computer, I could just switch the source on the TV and bam, it is up, rather than having to connect up the laptop everytime

A friend is running one with a xeon, 16gb RAM and an SSD with vmware. Not it's original intention but they are capable little things. You could probably fry an egg on it though.

Haha, that is what I worry about with a mini PC, since it is fanless, it would cook itself if left on everyday

Not with a Celeron or i5, they are fine and run cool. A xeon puts out much more heat!

Groovy. I don't even think I'd need an i5.

I think I saw some with an i3 which I think would be enough for what I want it for.

Exactly, it'd be plenty gutsy for XMBC or something like that.

Been looking into the NUC devices, seem pretty cool.

Also, Tim, now that you have clearly risen from the dead, you built a Hackintosh correct?

If so, was it easy to do? And if not, WHY NOT???

I want to extend my wifi range at home.
Ive just got a netgear dgn-1000 that come with the internet package.

Not really after super fast or flashy. Just wanna be able to use my wifi from further away. Do i go a new internet router or some wifi extender thing?

Next one i want an IP monitoring camera thingy for my shed. Anyone recommend one of them?

Might be overkill for most of you guys but look into these. .

Unify AP

Been using these at work recently. . Petty damn good. . I tested one at home. . From Bro in laws house to mine. . Through trees n shit.. About 200m range. .

And it's poe which is handy.

I had it strung up on a 50m eth wrapped in a plastic bag to make it weatherproof. .
Otherwise any standard range extender from officeworks.. Just don't expect the netgear or dlink stuff to last. . I find the power supplies on this consumer grade equipment are shit and die often.

Oh and Morgan. .

Don't buy a laptop with big hard drive. .
1: more work to lose when it dies. . Gets stolen. . Gets dropped..

2: SSD is so much better.... Go a smaller ssd to save $$ and what you save. . Spend on a good usb3 external drive.

Honestly I didn't buy into the whole ssd thing until I swapped one into my lappy. . Old i5 dell from like 4 years ago. . And it out performs probably 99% of the now sub $1k lappys

I've never dropped or lost a laptop (stolen or otherwise). I've got heaps of external HDDs but I need a lot of internal space for work. SSD is a must though.
