My current mechanic is getting the boot because he doesn't know jack. Said my oil leak was caused by myself changing the oil. He advised to top it up and it should be fine. :/
Hahahaha

Don't they use a different turbo?
Or is that just the gen 2
Yes JDM Turbo are different. Final drive is also 4:44 JDM spec box and diff.
VF32 shits on the JDM turbos.

They do, I just don't remember if they were really any better though.... Now that I think about it, I genuinely can't remember for certain.
I think the JDM's use the 26/27 combo and the ADM use 33/32.. might need to look into it.

The only logic I can put behind his reasoning for saying that is that you tightened the oil filter to the point where it damaged the cooler (if your cooler is part of the filter setup)
Old mate said it wasn't the filter causing the problem.
He also replaced it with a genuine Subaru filter as well but didn't put it on my invoice.

Can't say I have ever used a genuine subaru filter on my car ever.

I change my filter every 5k so I just get whatever brand is going.

I've started using one for the last 2 or 3 services, no difference imo
Nah there isn't.
Just another freaking oil filter, pretty much all of them do the exact same thing.

I remember reading something on the net about the oil rate flow can be different on cheaper filters. How you would test that I have no idea.
I usually just grab one anyway while I'm getting the uec from subaru
It's like 9 bucks on trade or something
What do they cost normally?

Coolio. I used ryco before but I will be getting genuine next time considering its about the same price.
I done and oil change on my sisters gen 3 on monday and used a repco branded filter because its all they had in stock. It seemed alright to me.

I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.

Repco/Ryco, they will all do the job fine.

Subaru filters are all re branded Purolator filters. (if my memory serves me correctly) Which are a good brand of filter, anyways. As Josh said Repco/Ryco will be fine. I use the drift/k&n branded filters with the socket attachment on the bottom of the filter. Makes it so much easier to take them on & off.
