Adam, sometimes a person is just in the right place at the right time and they get a certain job they can do without having to work hard at it.

I know a few such people.

I don't know anyone like that.

So, was speaking to the test lead here at work, after work, and he has an interesting theory.

He isn't a fan of working back crazy hours like some of the people do here everyday, and he agrees with me that the downside of this is management get used to the idea of people working after work hours for free.

Then, people who don't stay back till 7-8pm everyday get looked at like slackers.

But the reason he thinks those people do stay back, and he is probably right here, is that a lot of them are newly arrived immigrants, and this is their first job in Australia. Therefore, they can't afford to lose their job there, they probably won't get another job in Australia for a long time if they lose it, so no matter what the hours or the work conditions are like, they will make it work, for a few years, till they are settled and can say they have local experience, then they will move on.

I think he has hit the nail on the head with that one.

I very recently knew someone like that, they lasted two weeks and then asked for their previous job back.

Haha.

I knew what you meant, but jealousy is a curse, so I applied it to my personal situation. Many would think I am here out of sheer luck.

Haha, all good bro. I agree with the luck thing, almost everyone can say something has happened to them just because of luck, some can attest to having more luck than others as well.

I don't know anyone like that.

You need to meet some of the people I've worked with.

On second thought, you wouldn't want to.

Haha! I've worked hard to get where I am and every job I've worked in, I've earned the position and done the work. I know someone who got a job because he was friends with a manager, and when he got the role, he didn't know how to do anything, but got others to do the work for him.

Unfortunately for me, in my role, not many people can do what I do, so I have nobody to delegate tasks to, not at present anyway.

And yes, I believe you did say that to me, but to hear it from the test lead here, who these people work under, it has to be a fact, if he believes it.

My sister was happy with her new TV. And so she should be.
