The BIRD is coming along nicely Jimbo.

Just for reference's sake, I used to get between 400-450km on a full tank. Rarely got 500+ only on long highway runs.

In Japan, they measure fuel efficiency in the format: km/L The earlier Gen 3s were only every expected to get 6-7km per Liter. Thats 390 - 455km per 65L of fuel.

No matter who I spoke to in Japan. Friends, driving instructors, mechanics you name it, they knew the GTB well and the first thing people would say is 'Nempi waruuuui' which literally means shyte fuel economy.

regardless of this fact, they were the must have car for anyone living in cold/mountainous regions (most of regional Japan) where stability is needed in icy conditions and grunt was needed to get up hills.

Other thing is - Japan has rego 'tax' brackets for cars based on engine capacity. You will notice on your documentation that the EJ20 is actually 1998cc or something just shy of 2.0L.

This is so that owners would not be slogged with the more expensive tax bracket of 2-3L vehicles. Hence the need for turbo variants. Sequential TT made sense as the demand for hilly terrain required more boost at lower revs in lower gears.

Youll never get good fuel economy out of the BIRD. Comparatively, Marks E-tune for example will def get better fuel economy - being the newer variant.

Dave, I always learn something after you chime in!

My last fill up was err, worse than the previous one. 15.85L/100km's or 6.31Km/L which is bang on your given figure. I need to try a week out with the selector left in D, without hitting the secondary and leaving the AT mode switch on Normal. (impossibru). Would be interesting to see the difference. Either that, or lend the car to the wife for a week, though she works literally 5 minutes from home so would take about 2 weeks for her to use a tank in it lol.

Keep tuned in here Dave, I have some goodies on the way and am due for some nice pictures :D

Hows the hunt going for a GTB, still keen for one or have you let it slide for now?

Think of your mental state after said week.... look after yourself mate.

I like your new sig.

Chuck the japanese on to be extra cool

燃費悪い!! (nempi warui)

Im still on the hunt for a gen3 GTB. Im not interested in any of the non JDM GTs so in the interim Ive got a very tidy Gen 4 2.0R limited edition in pearl white. Surprised how nice the DOHC EJ20 is. I know that must sound weak to a GTB owner, but I am blown away with the performance of this thing. There's a possibility that I will be going back to Japan for work in the not too distant future. If I do, I vow to grab another GTB, do it up and bring back for sure. The Aussie fleet needs fleshing out.

http://autos.goo.ne....0141107002.html

roughly $11K AUD and would cost about 7K to bring back, compliance and register. what do you think would one of these bring in terms of price tag in AU if one went up for sale?

I reckon 22B kinda money, but it would be one of those things you just cant sell.

Everyone would be like "ooh ahh" but no one would front up for it. Worth more to keep it and enjoy it.

Interior trim on that particular one looks a bit gnarly?!

Not bad for that price, about the going rate for a Gen 4 GT..

If you do end up going to Japan for work, come up with a random private business name, become a vendor on the forum and sell us awesome JDM bits.

I have no idea.

It runs great, though it has a bit of a niggle at hwy speed which I cant put my finger on. Cruising at 110, it shudders lightly when off boost. If you hold the throttle at smack on 0psi, I can feel light jolting until I keep it at a few psi or in vac. Only on the freeway and in D.

I gave mine a boot this week and filled up today for 11.9L/100km

Jimbo have you checked for codes? Or do you have a major leak in your fuel tank. Maybe neighbours are siphoning your gas at night

Have you done the Line 10 mod? Apparently the reason the vac system was set up originally was to take that shudder/oscillation out at highway speed

I figured it may be a side effect of the mod. Does anyone else get that? Probably the BOV chattering? Its a T900 so it shouldn't?
