Hey guys,

Quick question, have any of you guys had experience installing a front mount kit on a GC8 wrx?

I have a '96 gc8 with a '95 engine in it and was wondering how hard a task is this going to be? Something i should be able to tackle over a weekend?

I installed a fmic on my old 180sx and there was a fair bit of hacking involved (Battery tray, front reo etc)... Took the best part of a weekend.. Just wondering how this will compare?

From the guides I've checked out online it looks like i might be able to get the piping up through the front guard with minimal choppage.. Just wondering if any of you fella's have pulled this task off in the past?

Advice, links and pics all welcome :)

Haha oh, and here is a pic of my old 180sx with my mate holding up the stock side mount as a comparison :P

I prefer the under headlight route...shorter and neater pipes

Not sure if i would attempt the under the headlight setup at this stage Matt, looks like a fair bit more cutting involved and I've heard the lag isn't too noticeable anyways?

Yeah true! I think Reveesy might have a 2nd hand FMIC kit for a gc8 too, need to put aside a bit of coin first but haha. Just sussing out the install at the moment :P

Dont have it anymore lol, but i do have the front rio bar that is already cut to suit a FMIC, then just need to cut a bit out of the bottom of the front bar itself

Sold my old set up. Under the headlights is a shitload more hacking. I changed my turbo and boost controller aswell so i cant comment in the lag difference.

When done properly under the headlights looks alot tidier

Oh ok thanks anyways Reevesy. If you still have the reo lying around when i come to do it ill probs grab it ay.

Yeah Scuba-Roo i thought it would be a bit more of a hack job but definitely looks neater in the end... A fair few of the non headlight installs look like the core hangs a bit below the front bar? Not a fan...

If anyone can tell the difference in turbo lag between differences of about 60cm of piping, they're full of shit.

If you're worried about the core's junk hanging out the bottom, get yourself a smaller core. From memory i once used a 550x270x65 and it fit perfectly.

A rotated turbo, with under headlight pipework into an inverted cooler vs a non rotated through the guards coolers pipework would be more than 60cm I would think? Just by rotating the turbo deletes like 60cm+ from the pipes and an almighty horrible bend?

I agree with the lag factor, but I still reckon you get much better throttle response with less piping, though on newer cars much of this can be tuned out....though less pipework means less weight (biggest issue with Subaru's as they're already nose heavy), much, much, much, much tidier.. especially when you run a stock airbox ;)

And its not that much hacking to the car, little bit under the headlights...mainly a fair bit to the reo though yeah....but hey thats even more weight off the front ;) lol

Billsy makes the perfect kit for them...2 inch hot side with 2.5 inch cold side, fits like a glove and looks super tidy with the stock airbox fitted which just needs some massaging with some heat to fit the hot side pipe
