It does suck that we all pay that much but all factors are involved with regards to insurance (at least from what I've been told and researched); location, car, statistics of accidents of that car involved in car accidents, whether your car is garaged or not (secured also or not), alarms, immobilisers, driver history, claim history, etc. I can only guess that there is a massive algorithm that all insurance companies have to fork us all over at any given time.

What kind of differences are we talking?

If you have a crash, your car gets fixed.

If it's a write off, you get cash.

That's really all that matters with compo insurance?

NRMA cover me and any driver of my car for example. I don't know another insurance company that matches that, at least not yet. There may be a few other things but that would require me to look at my policy in detail which I cannot be assed doing at the moment. :P

Most comprehensive insurers cover your car if it's being driven by another person, provided it's not a regular arrangement. And a lot still cover it if another person drives it on a regular basis, QBE, Allianz are examples.

But I digress this is a CTP thread, and once again I laugh at you poor Welshman and your greedy state govt and inferior rugby league team.

I just renewed my CTP. Here's some fun facts from my situation:

CTP (w/ third party property, fire, theft): $617

Third party property, fire, theft: $366

Total: $983

CTP (w/ comprehensive): $389

Comprehensive: $646

Total: $1035

So I went with Plan B - it costs me fifty bucks more to get comprehensive insurance? I feel like I has the dumb, but what gives?

Just thought it was worth sharing in case there are other people out there with third party only.

I think "they" offer copious discounts if you take on a CTP and a Comp. policy with them combined.

The price Shannon's gave me on CTP after taking a Comp. policy had me high-fiving the air like an air traffic controller.

lol, I AM an air traffic controller, and I only very rarely high five the air... like when I scored a mad discount on insurance!

Side note, the CTP is with AAMI, and they don't even care who the comprehensive policy is with! Just listed as "Other than AAMI". For our Prado, I bought AAMI CTP and AAMI comprehensive, hoping for an even madder discount... $1.35 off. True story...

Just paid Rego and CTP for 12months. $670.00. I think it hasn't gone up since last year, or maybe it has by $5.

On a side note for full Comp insurance, insuring the Evo has been fun.

Everyone has basically said no to it being an import.

Shannons $2200
NRMA $2200

So figured I was stuck with Justcar.
$1800 ... $16850 car value plus $2250 excess. (850 standard + 400 age + 1000 "special car tax")

Did some research. Found a car enthusiast insurer called Famous.
$1100 and $19k car value and $650 excess..

No idea what my CTP will be like, as previous owner did that before I bought the car.

I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.

My papers came in and I have been quoted the following.

Registration is $449.00 which includes the $102 licence plate annual fee.

CTP is $669.09.

All up, $1,180.09 for an entire year. Not including my insurance either.

Last year I paid $438.00 (including $99 licence plate annual fee) for registration and $767.52 for CTP, so I'm winning in a way.

Hahaha that annual number plate fee is hilarious. I can't believe they get away with that, when it's a one off fee in every other state (AFAIK).

Sam, that's crazy man. Honestly what's the advantage of a JDM Evo VII over an AUDM Evo VII? Wonder how much it would be if it were AUDM. $2250 excess is redonks. Allianz have me on something like $900p.a with agreed value of $24,000, 24 with no accidents, but also have had comprehensive for 8 years.

You can say that again. Seems like the fee is rising as well, even if it is only just $3 between last year and this year, that's two more coins I don't want to give to the government.

Guess what.

Apart from the topic revival I have just received my NSW CTP Green Slip Insurance renewal documents; $844.01 with NRMA for 12 months.

Get another quote. I found that some companies do discounts for a clear driving record. Nrma was more expensive by like $300

Do people still use the www.greenslips.com.au website or do you think I am better off speaking directly with insurers?

So my car is due for renewal in the next week or two and I found the figures to be very different to those last year from this topic thanks to the CTP Green Slip reforms. I won't get into the insurance side of things as I get great discounts through work with Toyota Insurance, and it'll almost half once I move into the Shire in a couple of months.

Here are the quotes I have obtained from greenslips.com.au for 12 months:

  • QBE - $477.99
  • NRMA - $662.81
  • CIC-Allianz - $686.00
  • Allianz - $704.00
  • GIO - $749.69
  • AAMI - $750.99

I have been with NRMA since I remember and even with the loyalty discount they offer, it doesn't beat QBE. Am I better off just going with the cheapest when it comes to green slip alone? I intend to sell my car soon too.

The difference between QBE and NRMA in NSW is the At Fault Driver Cover. You can read about it here. Only Allianz and NRMA offer this additional cover.

mmm... I'd be looking at that very carefully and seeing what your comprehensive and other insurances cover you for.  I suspect the 3rd-party stuff is fairly limited &/or last in the chain of coverage.

There is a difference. Read it and see if you need the extra coverage...

Wow that's crazy. I think I'm glad ours is dictated to us and that it's the same for all cars.

Also loyalty isn't rewarded these days. New clients/customers are...

Cheers
