I blame P platers being able to drive turbo cars for the price rise.

Rego time for the Calais.

Greenslip - $617

Rego - $594

Last years comparison -

Greenslip - $580

Rego - $581

Not too bad a jump... But we're still paying ridiculous amounts of money just to drive a car...

On the other hand (while it's a little off topic), comprehensive insurance is looking good this year! I've always had my cars in my old man's name as just been too expensive to have in mine. For the Calais, I paid $797.64 last year for full comp. Did a new quote for the car in my name and it's now $568.81!!

Now I thought this couldn't also be possible for the turbo charged Subaru! Last year I paid $901.72 in dads name and the new quote in my name is $701.44! Obviously that goes even cheaper when I bump up the excess a little.

Both with Katie as the other driver. Though that wouldn't really matter. She's female and older than me :P

BOOYA!

you think 'not too bad'.. rego goes up by ~inflation (2.5%) - but the CTP is ridiculous.

I blame all the lebs and their whiplash claims.

Yeah I reckon you're right!

I expect inflation on rego. Things go up in price. I've come to terms with that. Greenslip is simply insane though.

I turn 25 this year, Zahmad. Not far off but I'll still be 24 when rego is due.

My CTP (in my dads name) was about $600~something.

I called them up, and they knocked off about $200 just like that.

Talk is cheap. Just chat with them and I'm sure they've got some money in it that they could knock off...

I've just renewed the policy for the Outback with Justcar, had it with Suncorp but the agreed value was getting too low.

Justcar covered for all mods including engine conversion for roughly $800, with me as the only listed driver (22), happy with that.

My folks are with the NRMA.

Just about to switch over to my own policy now that I've recently hit 25...

My CTP was $767.52 with NRMA last year in August. Here's to hoping that sum will decrease this year as I'm turning 27. I got a good deal with my full comprehensive insurance as well with NRMA. I used the same tactic as Shiv; talk a bit, play your cards right and soon enough you may just get a small discount. Any discount is a good discount I guess.

You did alright, Morgs.

Did a quote for a 23yo girl at work, she's buying a $2000 car, her annual on road costs total $1500, we just used NRMA website and RTA website to do the estimate. Shit is whack.

its funny that people have problems with the daily driven thing with Shannons as it's never been a problem for me. i have no cap on my km's or frequency driven. Especially weird with you Chris as our cars are pretty much the same and i'm covered for all mods too.

From my understanding,
If you're purely a daily driver you're unlikely to get cover.
However, If you own a weekend driver, they'll insure your daily (whatever it may be).
If your under 25, you're less likely to get cover but obviously a substantial amount of u25's have cover with shannons.

Our Prado rego/insurance is due. CTP renewal with AAMI is $367.95. I called them up to let them know the Prado was comprehensively insured with them (originally listed as "Other insurer"). So I'm sitting there, rubbing hands together anticipating huge discount - new price... $362.55

Y U NO GIVE BIGGER DISCOUNT!?

Tomorrow morning's coffee proudly brought to you by the folks at AAMI. Seriously though, I thought there'd be more financial love have all insurance products with the one provider.

It definitely benefits you to have all insurance products with the one company, but they barely make it over the 'impressive' line. I get discounts having my CTP, roadside assistance and full comprehensive insurance with NRMA, and as the years go by the loyalty discount increases. When I compare it to other companies though I am only saving a bit. Last time I checked it was around the $100 mark...

Any saving is a good saving, right?

Loyalty means nothing anymore. Be thankful it's half of what I paid yesterday ;)

I hear ya. After ten years on the same policy, we're at Ultimate Diamond Extreme-level discount and it's still more expensive than Budget Direct. We're staying because AAMI policies suit us better, but still kinda raises an eyebrow. Nearly 20 years on road, and fortunate to have never made a claim.

Loyalty means nothing anymore. Be thankful it's half of what I paid yesterday ;)

Morgs I think I have at least a decade on you (and this is for the truck, not the Legacy) :-) Doesn't mean we drive any differently, but age is their CTP yardstick. But yep, definitely grateful for any saving. I remember being 18 and paying $2200pa for comprehensive for my 180SX. Later, $1200 for the GTR. Now, it's $450pa for the B4. Very happy that times change!
