Ty was guessing from his knowledge base though, one could argue that you've searched the internet for your answer.
One could also argue that there is a possibility that people were distributing the Subaru before 1973, prior to Subaru Australia as a brand being solidified. This could explain earlier examples of the marque being present in Australia. My '78 was brought in by SoAUS - but being five years latter to the aforementioned importation date, not worth mentioning.
yeah i'd say there are earlier examples of subaru in australia than 1973. i have no proof or real basis for this...but that's what i reckon.

Thank you for your email to feedback at Subaru Australia.
Unfortunately due to copyright, we are unable to supply the images you
are requesting.
Once again thank you for writing to Subaru Australia.
Far out. Makes it hard to try and do the right thing when people can't even read what you have written. I have replied to that email, but I am not very confident it will get me anywhere.

Good post champ.
Thanks tiger. for sure they would have been imported prior to subaru setting up proper operations here. pretty sure when my folks got their first subaru in 1979 it was from Taree Tractors and Trucks

Subaru were well and truly the sole distributor by that stage of the game, but some rural/semi rural machinery sales yards did cross from the ag gear to the brumby/DL's around 1977. Which still made it a Subaru 'dealership' - in the same way you can buy a Massey Furgeson from a John Deere dealership today.

Ferrari, Citroen, Maserati, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Great Wall are similar in respect that they are not sold in Aus by the actual manufacturer - there is a private company who imports those called Ateco.Subaru were well and truly the sole distributor by that stage of the game, but some rural/semi rural machinery sales yards did cross from the ag gear to the brumby/DL's around 1977. Same goes for Lambo who are imported by a family.. can't remember the name....
